This page compares and contrasts the terms Genealogy and Family History.

  • Genealogy is the study of one’s biological ancestors.
  • These are people from whom one is most likely to have inherited genes
(which in turn make-up characteristics, interests, and predispositions,
such as biological, cognitive, social, and meaningful, among many others).
One’s genealogy is also one’s pedigree.
  • Family History is the study of one’s family origins.
  • This is the family or families in which one feels a sense of belonging
and either identifies or is identified.

  • Both the study of Genealogy and the study of Family History
    contain information of two types:
    Identification (1) and Resources (2).
  • (1). Identification may also contain the terms ancestor, descendant, surname, hername, given name, birth name, father (f), mother (m), child (c), grandfather (gf), grandmother (gm), great grandfather (grtgf), great grandmother (grtgm), neice (ne), nephew (ne), aunt, and uncle, as well as several other terms, relationships, and abbreviations.
  • (2). Resources (RES) may also contain the terms research, references (REF), and citations.
  • Both Identification and Resources may contain several unexplained, as assumed known, abbreviations.
  • And, both Genealogy and Family History are composed of two processes:
    Gathering (3) and Organization (4).

  • Together, the four line-up as:
  •  1.  Identification
  •  2.  Resources, Research, References
  •  3.  Gathering
  •  4.  Organization
  • .........and, repeat:
  • ......... 1., 2., 3., and 4.
  • The four categories above compose Family Groups and Family Trees,
as well as all other subjects, including All of Life Divided by 12.
  • One through four is what one might expect from purchased work.
  • One's contribution to Genealogy and/or Family History,
through self-effort or other’s effort may be labeled:
  • Autobiography, Biography, Life History, Life Story, and Reminiscence, plus many more.
  • Genealogy and Family History, as well as other pursuits,
may include more of life.  These may be later be reviewed at PsoV,
when that page is back up.
