LOWERY & Related Spellings DNA Project |
Welcome to the |
Project Surnames: Lawery -- Lawrey -- Lawry -- Lawrie -- Lourey -- Loury -- Lowery Lowrey -- Lowrie -- Lowry -- Lurry -- Laughery -- Laughrey -- Loughrey Lochary Project Background: This is a Y-DNA project limited to males of LOWERY's and related spellings. Women may participate by recruiting/sponsoring a brother, father, or other male relative with the LOWERYs surname. FTDNA can set up result pages in both your names if that is what you wish. You can find out about the testing by visiting the web site for Family Tree DNA, http://www.familytreedna.com , they will be conducting the LOWERY DNA test. We suggest that you read as much as possible about Y-DNA testing, they will be able to answer many of the questions you may have. To collect the DNA sample for the test you simply rub the inside of your cheek with the cotton swabs from a kit you buy through FTDNA when you join the LOWERY project. You can join by using this link to the LOWERY Project Join Request. You can start with a 12, 25, or 37 marker test. The 25 is recommended as it will bring you closer in generations to other participants results, the 37 marker (or the next 12 after doing the 25) may or may not be needed and can be done at a later time. The cost for the tests are shown on the "Join Request" page. Click on the above link to join or just to find out more about the process of joining and the cost of tests. You can always join at a later time. If you do not join now, come back often and check out how the project is going. Hopefully you will decide to join and be an early participant in the new field of "genealogy by genetics" This web page will be used to provide you with easy access to the results and ancestry of all the LOWERY's who are being tested. You will see posted on this page the Test Kit # and the test results. Confidentiality is very important in this project which means you must be the one to decide on how much to share on this web site. You may share as little or as much as you wish to. After you join you need to email me the ancestry/lineage of the person tested before it can be posted with reference to the Test Kit#. I would like to be able to at least post your earliest documented ancestor; their birth, marriage, and death dates, and their migration pattern. Again it will be up to the participant if they would like their email listed with their ancestry on this website. By posting your email it gives you a way to contact others who are researching the same line or area of the country that you are. Remember this is about the sharing of our family genealogy and making new connections. If you prefer, you can request the project manager to contact the participant of the line you are interested in, I can then give them your email and they can decide if they wish to contact you. Project Goals: The project is being done in hopes of bringing about another tool to help LOWERY family genealogists enhance and extend their research. The success of this "genealogy by genetics" will depend on encouraging LOWERY males to participate and share their DNA and ancestral research. How do you participate? 1. Order a test kit from Family Tree DNA. Click on the JOIN button to the left and you'll be taken to the signup page at FTDNA. It just takes a minute to fill out the form. Most participants choose the $99 12-marker test. 2. Perform the test in the comfort of your own home then return it to FTDNA. FTDNA will contact you with the results of your test in about four weeks. Go to the LOWERY DNA Results Chart to see how your test compares with others of the LOWERY & Related Spellings lines. The Y-chromosone is passed from father to son thus determining the line of descent. Most participants choose the 12-marker test at first. As we get deeper into the testing, chances are you may want to try the 25-marker test (for an upgrade fee with FTDNA) as this test enhances your chances of making a match with another participant (see the chart on the Results page).
