James Madison Hinkle Sr. born January 4, 1831 in Whitley Co.Ky. and died July 20, 1909 in at home on Piney Grove Rd, (now State Route 1484), Whitley Co.,Ky. Son of William Hinkle & Susannah Treadway. Married Delia "Dilley" Davis on on June 26 1850 in Knox Co.,Ky., daughter of Jobe Broughton Davis mother Unknown, born May 24 1833, in North Carolina Cherokee Indian Reservation, died at on home on Piney Grove Rd, (now State Route 1484) Whitley Co.Ky., laid to rest in Steely Cemetery, next to James and her son Elisha Hinkle, located on State Route 204, north from Red Bird, Kentucky.

After the death of Dilley James married Mary "Polly" Taylor on September 28 1884 in Whitley Co. Ky, daughter of Benjamin Davis & Elizabeth Morgan, born March 3, 1838 in North Carolina, died November 17, 1914 and is laid to rest in Red Bird Baptist Church Cemetery, Whitley Co. Ky. visited the cemetery September 17, 2005 and walked the cemetery never found the headstone, their was several where over thur the years engravement was weathered off.

On December 30, 1897 James and Polly donated land for the Piney Grove Baptist Church & Cemetery was to be erected, do not know the completion of the church building and cemetery was done. But James Madison Sr. was laid to rest in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, cemetery is behind the church. Now for years the Hinkle's have held their James Madison Hinkle Sr. Family Reunion there under the Picnic Shelter, then this day Saturday September 17th, 2005 My Dad & Mom and my Uncle & Aunt and my husband including myself attend the reunion and is was the most moving time for me and my family we was Blessed and we also attended the church service that Sunday, before we headed back home 4 hour drive back to Ohio.
