| Nolynn (Nolin/Nolan) Baptist Church Cemetery, LaRue County, Kentucky |
(Tonieville map, Section 8-M-45 Carter coordinates) The cemetery as well as the church is located about three and one half miles west of Hodgenville on highway 222. The church dates back to the early 1780's, and the cemetery probably dates back to before 1800. Many well-known pioneers are buried here including Rev. Alexander McDougal, Robert Hodgen, David Thurman, and Squire LaRue. The church is one of the oldest in Kentucky. (Note: "NOLYNN" is the correct spelling. That's how it appears on the church's
marquee, on the LaRue Co. map & in the phone book. It is often misspelled & listed as Nolin, or Nolan. It's an odd spelling since most of the other things around here with Nolin in their name are spelled "Nolin". Thanks to Mr. Mark Thurman of Sonora, KY for this correction AND help with the "*" notes.) |
