This is the Homepage for my family history research.
Who am I? Well, I am Alice L. Luckhardt of Florida, a native born Floridian. But both sides of my parents' families came from the NE section of the United States. My husband, Greg, is also a native born Floridian but his parents' families were not originally from Florida but from the mid-west. I started family research back in the late 1980's by asking my mother to write the family history. After months of working with her and editing we had about 25 typed pages of stories and information on her side of the family and a little on my father's family. It was after my mother's death in 1994 that I really got into the research of the families. There were many names, places and dates missing from the first write-up my mother had done, strictly from memory. There were too many unanswered questions, so I started my quest for the answers. At the same time I also started assisting my mother-in-law in researching my husband's side of the family.
The first places I started research and studying were the old family papers, photos, records in the family bibles and sending away for birth, death and marriage records. I started with a small notebook and as that was filled with information more storage and notebooks were needed. The information just kept growing and growing. The more I learned the more additional questions came forward. I was lucky to have an excellent Family History Center Library (LDS Church) only 3 miles away from my home, so I started visited the Center once or twice a week. The wealth of information at the Center was amazing. Now I really had to be organized and keep data on each of the many surnames (from my side and my husband's side of the family). It was always a great thrill to discover new information on an ancestor that was previously unknown. Then to locate branches and distant ancestors was so exciting, such a thrill, a true "rush" to experience.
The following are some of the various family surnames being researched: EVERHART, BIXLER, GROFF, SMITH, ALBAUGH, WAGONER, MUSSELMAN, FRANKFORTER, SHERMAN, SCHERMAN, WEAVER, PARR, BORN - BURNS, CROUSE, DIFFENBACH, TROUT, BROWN, GETTIER (from Md. and Pa.), WALTERS and ROCKWELL (from Iowa), KERSHAW, BRIGGS, PROPHET, SMITH,LESCHKE (from Mass. and England), MacCARTNEY,DUBBERLEY,COLLINS,HODKINSON,BEESTON,CREER, CREAR,EVANS, TETLOW, MARSH,POLLET,ROTHWELL, & GREENHALGH (from England), LUCKHARDT, RUE, ROOT, McVEY, BURKHART, EDMONDSON, HOLMES, SMITH, TERRY, HIGLEY, DURR, PLAISS, FELDKAMP, KLEIN, and ARMBRUSTER(from Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, & Kentucky).
