Descendants of Timothy Ragan

Timothy Ragan (O'Riagan) was born about 1678 probably in Ireland or in the State of Maryland to an Irish parents whom name is not known to this writer. He lived in environs of Anne Arundel County, Maryland prior to his marriage in 1703. On Saturday, 24 Nov 1703, he was married to Mary Lary (O'Leary ) in St. Margaret's Parish, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Mary was born about 1686 probably in Ireland and died 23 Jan 1764 in Anne Arundel, Md, at 77 years of age. Most of the information on this family came from the following two books: 1. "The Book of Ragan/Reagan" by Donald B. Reagan, information also from the late Micheal Ragan and family information that I remember from James Thomas Smith, Sr., my dad.

Children of TIMOTHY and MARY LARY RAGAN:
1. CATHERINE RAGAN b. about 1704 Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
2. ELEANOR RAGAN b. about 1706 Anne Arundel County, Maryland. She did not marry. She was living at the time of her mother's death in January 1764.
3. MARY RAGAN b. about 1708 Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
4. JOHN RAGAN b. about 1711 Anne Arundel County, Maryland d. about July 1767 Frederick County, Virginia. He married Mary Morrice of Balt imore County, Maryland. This family moved from Anne Arundel/Baltimore Counties, Maryland to Frederick County, Virginia prior to 1751.
5. TIMOTHY RAGAN Jr. b. about 1714 Anne Arundel County, Maryland d. after 1768 Baltimore County, Maryland. He married _____ Nelson, daughter of Robert and Eleanor Hanks Nelson of Anne Arundel County, Maryland . This family stayed in Anne Arundel County, Maryland til after Mary Lary Ragan' s death in January 1764. The children in this family migrated to Virginia and North Carolina (later Tennessee).
6. DANIEL RAGAN b. 04 Dec 1717 Anne Arundel County, Maryland d. after 1762 Frederick County, Maryland. He married Mary Abrell, daughter o f John and Elizabeth Abrell of Frederick County, Virginia.
7. REZIN/Reason RAGAN b. about 1720 Anne Arundel County, Maryland d.after 1770 Frederick County, Virginia. He married Ann Beamont, daughter of Richard Beamont of Anne Arundel County, Maryland in Anne Arundel County , Maryland. Then they migrated to Frederick County, Virginia prior to 1751 to join John Ragan and his wife Mary Morrice. All of their children were born there. Later their children moved to western Pennsylvania ( Fayette and Westmoreland Counties) and upper South Carolina (Newberry District).
8. CORNELIUS RAGAN b. about 1723 Anne Arundel County, Maryland d. after January 1764. This family stayed there. But there is strong evid ence that some of descendants of this family migrated to East Tenness ee in late 1790's and early 1800's.
