Two Ellis Mysteries


On February 23, 1913, James Newport Ellis, age 27, was found dead
beside the tracks of the Railroad he worked for as a brakeman.
He had been shot by party or parties unknown.


                                He was the husband of Lillie Mae Stephens Ellis and the father of 4
                                boys:

                                William Ernest Ellis - age 6
                                Samuel Toliver Ellis - age 4
                                Homer Desmond Ellis - age 2
                                Colquit Carter Ellis - age 2 weeks

                                The family lived in Eton, Murray County, GA.

                                James was the son of ELIJAH MARION ELLIS and REBECCA
                                TALLULAH CAMPBELL.

                                Lillie was the daughter of EARL STEPHENS and SUSAN GREEN.

Rev. William Ellis is the one who wrote the War Dept. and had Mary Ellis's Family Bible returned in 1843. He was married 3 times. The last time in Alabama. Some where Mary's Bible is packed away and forgotten. If it could only be found.
