Asa is 10 months old today!

Asa is proficient at crawling, and is very excited about it. He is pulling up with a vengeance now and opening cupboards left and right. Balls and other things that move are more interesting now that he can chase them down. Legos (the big kind) are also a hit. Rattles and other "baby" toys are so passe. Of course the best things are the ones he isn't supposed to play with, or thinks he shouldn't be playing with. The fastest way to interest him in a toy is to put it in a cupboard and shut the door. Or you can leave pretty much anything on the coffee table to make it interesting. Paper is especially exciting. We're going to visit my parents this week. They aren't going to know what hit them.

You can see Asa's fascination with things he isn't supposed to have in this video (from yesterday) where he attempts to eat the camera:

In other motor developments, he is now really walking if you hold his hands, and can stand holding on with just one hand. Occasionally, he can do it with no hands, too.

We're going to storytime at the library every Monday morning, and he is very much enjoying it. He sits and listens to some of the books, watches the other kids, and likes the songs. There's another little boy there who is just one week younger than Asa! Books are definitely among his favorite things, although he is still very active!

Language is coming right along. He's hit the jargon-y stage, where I'm not quite sure what is a word and what isn't. I know he's got mama (which seems to apply to both me and Jess) and possibly book and dog. He's a great imitator though, so he'll say something like "goo dah" after I say "good dog".

He's basically feeding himself everything now, so long as it doesn't involve utensils. Yogurt and applesauce are challenging. :) He loves cheddar cheese. I'm considering beginning to buy it at Costco. I'm already buying my bread there. Last night for dinner - just dinner, mind you - he ate:
  • two ice cube-sized blocks of lentils, with yogurt and cumin (dal)
  • 2 crackers
  • 3/4 of a slice of toast
  • 1/2 a banana
  • 2 big slices of cheese
  • zucchini (1/4 cup?)
And this was after an afternoon snack, plus lunch, morning snack, breakfast, and nursing. He's a healthy, growing boy!
