A couple of newish videos...

One of Asa trying to remove his shirt and the other of him dancing to classical music....

Other new updates:

Asa has now split his lip for the third time. I'm feeling horrible about these incidents, but he seems to recover rapidly when presented with a popsicle. So much so, that you have to wonder about the power of said popsicles... okay, not really, but you have to massage the guilt somehow. Someday, I assume he will either improve his catching ability with his hands and/or not fall on his face as much.

Asa may have said "tree". It sounded very much like tree and he pointed at trees the two times he did it, so we have to assume that's what it was. However, he said it twice in 24 hours and now the word appears to have disappeared again. Plus, it's a weird word to have chosen to learn, so we're a little unsure of it. I had had a long conversation with him about trees in the week prior to this. But we don't have any trees near our house either. Perhaps this makes them special?

He does have the sign for milk. It started out meaning "milk". Then, it meant a drink of any kind. Then it morphed into "food or drink". Now it mostly just means "I want", although we seem to have begun moving back from overgeneralization to at least just some form of liquid. He also makes the signs for light and fan. Pointing and shaking his head are the two other consistent gestures. Jack and "dah" are the only two other words that we understand.

He does understand a LOT of words though. If you ask him for virtually anything, he will go get it for you. This is rather convenient, actually. He will also point things out in books now. We have to read the same books over and over and over. He can always find them, even at the bottom of the basket. I have really hidden "Old MacDonald". I think I might have gone crazy having to read/sing it again.

He has also hit the toddler-y phase of testing limits. This may make him precocious. Oh joy. Now, when you say, "No", and try to distract him, he grins and returns to the scene of the crime. In fact, he does this repeatedly... even after successful distraction and often after several minutes of playing. He does have a good memory and attention span! If you persist in saying 'No', he throws a temper tantrum. But perhaps this is a side effect of teething (his upper teeth are coming in... fifth and sixth), or the learning to talk and walk.

I feel as though I haven't said much cheery in this post. It really has been a trying week or two, but we ARE having fun. Asa has been playing outside a lot; we're going to the library and hanging out with friends. It's been hot as Hades too, so we've spent time playing in the basement where it is somewhat cooler.
