He's Getting There...

toward walking that is. This week he's taken several unsupported steps (the first of these were on the 17th). He's still not sure about it, and the steps are a little more like a sidle than like walking, but it's still steps.

Also, he has learned to stand up on his own. This seems like a skill he's now had for a while, but he is using it more. And actually, he's probably only had it for a couple of weeks.

It's been a busy week. Jess's grandmother passed away on the 14th, and we went home for the memorial service. Poor Asa had a rough time. He met a TON of people; he wasn't always the center of attention; there was a lot he wasn't allowed to play with; everyone was stressed; and he slept in the kitchen. Or rather, didn't sleep in the kitchen. Both nighttime and naps were hard for him.

On the other hand, he learned to use a fork this week. Jess's mom put him at the table with a plate and fork and a bib, and he didn't:
  • smear food onto the floor
  • rip off his bib
  • feed the dog (intentionally)
  • throw his plate
  • scream with frustration
All of which he did at home, and all of which he apparently still does at home. Oh well.

Also, he was introduced to Jello this week. Peach (blech!). He likes it, especially the part where it wiggles. Unfortunately, it is very slippery and hard to eat.
