Baylor Maddox
c.1773 ~ 1836

In the 1799 census of Fauquier Co., VA, Baylor is living in the household of George Maddox, and George was responsible for his taxes.  Was Baylor temporarily disabled?

Was Baylor named after his mother's maiden name?  I don't yet know who George married.  The minute books of Fauquier Co., VA, 1773-1783 lists William Bayler.  Had he served in the Revolutionary War with George?

Baylor married Susanna Suddoth in Fauquier Co., VA, April 18, 1800.

He was in the War of 1812 in Kentucky, serving once as Baylor (Index, pg. 374,
Kentucky Soldiers in the War of 1812) and once as Balor (Index, pg. 400, ibid.
)  The US still did not want to have a permanent military, so, in time of crisis, men signed up for 3-month tours of duty.

He was in the 1820 census of N. Middletown, Bourbon Co., KY.

His obituary appeared on August 30, 1836 in the Maysville, Mason Co., KY, newspaper:  "In this city, on Saturday night, Mr. Baler Maddox, aged 57 years."

Brothers George and John Maddox lived in Fleming and Lewis Cos., KY, next to Mason Co.

Apparently he had two sons, Baylor Jr, a blacksmith, and James W., a tailor.  Both were living in Baylor Jr's household in the 1850 census of Scott Co., KY, HH 352, along with Baylor's wife Margaret.  Baylor was 23 and James W. was 22.
