Jesse Arthur Maddox
1900~1969

   Jesse Arthur Maddox was born March 7, 1900.  He was named after his father's brother, Arthur Maddox, who had moved from Illinois to Missouri with Grant. 

     He was in the 1910 census of Stoddard Co., MO, Duck Creek Twp, HH 43, living his his parents, Grant and May Maddox, and siblings, as Jessie, age 11.

    In 1911, he was enrolled in the Corinth General Baptist Church Sunday school at Puxico, MO, along with Lulu Maddox, Ulas Maddox and "Harlitt" Maddox.  That July his class along with four others donated 50c to the Sunday School Convention and $1.30 to the janitor.  In 1913, he was still attending.  [Source:

On January 17,  1916, his father, Grant, died.  Numerous Guardian and Estate papers filed in Stoddard included his name along with his siblings and widowed mother.  He left his family well provided for with 313 acres of land either in crops or timber, and a large two-story house and barn.

     On January 23, 1918, Jesse's grandfather, Sanford Maddox, died back in Hamilton Co., IL.  Jesse and his siblings were named in numerous estate records in Hamilton Co. as a child and heirs of his deceased son, Grant.   However, by the time his land was sold, old debts were paid, and the lawyers were paid, there was only a little left for the widow, and none for his children or grandchildren.

     About 1824, he  married Pearl Pauline Mann and had children Stanley Floyd, Friendly Thommy, and Helen Larue.

     Jesse was in the 1930 census of Duck Creek Twp., Stoddard Co., MO, HH 180.  He is age 30.  Also in the household is wife, Pearl age 24, dtr. Helen 5, and son Friendly [can't read age].

     On September 21, 1940, he married Pauline Ridenouer at Paragould, Green Co., AR.  Their children were Peggy Esther "Bonny", Buddy Ronnal Maddox, and Benny Harley "Duke" Maddox.   

     On Dec. 18, 1956, his mother, Millie Mae Funkhouser Maddox, died in Dexter, Stoddard Co., MO.

     On August 26, 1969, he died and was buried at Rock Hill Cemetery where his parents and several siblings were also buried.
