Walter Maddox
1716 ~ ?

Walter, son of James Maddox, was named after his uncle, Walter, son of Cornelius.  I can find little about him.

Michael Marshall ([email protected]) cited the fact that Walter Maddox and George Godfrey appraised the estate of John Coffer on June 14, 1742 in Charles Co., MD.  That could have been this Walter, or Cornelius' son (this Walter's uncle b.c. 1700), or Benjamin's son (Cornelius' grandson c.1740,~1773).

In 1792, the niece and nephew of Walter requested pay for his service during the Revolutionary War.  Although many believe this was Corneliuis' son, he would have been a soldier in his 80s.  Benjamin's son, Walter, had died in 1773. This could have been James' son who would have been in his 50s during the Revolutionary War.

"The Auditor is requested to issue a Certificate for the Depreciation of pay to Walter Maddox late of the seventh Maryland Regiment, and deliver the same to the Treasurer of the western shore, who is ordered to pay it to Ignatius Luckett and Mary Luckett Administrator and Administratrix of the said Walter Maddox."  [Source:  Proceedings of Maryland, Vol. 72, pg. 305].

This being the case, then it is this Walter who married Eleanor Luckett.  Ignatius and Mary Luckett would have been niece and nephew.  Did he never have any children of his own?

He definitely was not the Walter who appeared in the 1820 census of Fleming Co., KY, born 1725 or before, because he would have been 104 by then.   And he wasn't Benjamin's son who had died in 1773.
