Elizabeth Maddox
1802 ~ 1878

Elizabeth, named after her mother, was born January 7, 1797 according to the family Bible in probably Fleming Co., KY. Her tombstone gives her birthdate as June 26, 1802.

On September 4, 1817, Elizabeth married Nathaniel Sweet.  Two years later, son William was born.  He would grow up to marry Lucinda Davis.

In 1820, they moved to Williamsburg Twp., Clermont Co., OH, just over the Ohio River from Lewis Co., KY.  Son John was born there.  He would grow up to marry Catherine Blackburn, Cynthia, and Louisa White.  In 1822 Eliza Lora was born and would grow up and marry Jackson Lowry.  In 1825, Daniel was born and would some day marry Mary Ann Lowell.

After her father died in 1825, Elizabeth convinced her mother, sister Rachael, and three brothers ~ Thomas, Lewis, and William ~  to join them in Ohio.   In 1826 Benjamin was born and would grow up and marry Margaret Sharp.  The following year a little boy was born but apparently unnamed and died in his infancy.

In 1828 son Richard was born; he would grow up and marry Margaret Sharp.  In 1830 Nancy was born and would some day marry Robert Montgomery.

Her entire family but brother Benjamin were all in the
1830 census of Clermont Co., OH, relatively close to each other.

In 1831, Nelson M. was born.  In 1833, George Mehlon was born and would some day marry Laura Craig.  In 1836 Thomas B. was born and would some day marry Manerva Ashley.  In 1838 Austin B. was born and would some day marry Mary Ellen Johnson.

Just before 1840, her brother Lewis moved to Clark Co., IL.  Just after 1840, sister Rachael moved there too.  Brother Thomas moved to Crawford Co., IL, and her mother moved to Clinton Co., IL.  Brother William moved back to KY.  Elizabeth and her family were in the 1840 census of Vermillion Co., IL, pg. 45, last line.

In 1841 Mary Jane was born and would some day marry a Cline.  She was the youngest of Elizabeth's and Nathaniel's children.

In 1849 her son Daniel died, in 1851 son Richard died, and in 1854 son John died.  How difficult this must have been.

In 1871, Elizabeth's husband, Nathaniel Sweet, died in Clark Co., IL.  She died there seven years later in 1878.
