Milton T. Maddox
1848 ~ ?

Milton T. Maddox was born in 1848 in Bracken Co., KY.  He was two years old in the 1850 census.  When he was four, his mother, Nancy Brandenburg Maddox, died of cholera.  How sad and confusing it must have been to this little boy.  He must have had only vague memories of her after that.

In the mid-1850s, his father, William, moved to Douglas Co., IL.  Milton was 11 years old in the 1860 census there.  He was still at home in the 1870 census, now age 22, and living with his newly widowed father in the city of Tuscola.  He was a carpenter.

The following year he married Anna A. Wilhite.  Their first child, Albert, was born in 1872 also.

In 1873, he bought lot 7 in the nearby town of Newman for $55.  [Source:  Douglas Co., IL, Deed Bk, Pg. 113]  Son Earle was born in 1874, and daughter Mattie in 1878.

In the 1880 census of Kankakee Co, IL., household 201, he was 39 years old, with the occupation of "briddle carpenter."   He must have just arrived, for on May 9, 1881, he sold to M. A. Laughlin an unknown amount of land back in Douglas Co.  [Source:  Douglas Co., IL, Deed Bk. 33, pg. 147]
