WITT and KEFFER ANCESTORS

For the Pennsylvania ancestors of my mother, I have not repeated my approach to the Louisiana ancestors of my wife’s father.  Although I like that approach for data presentation, upkeep is tremendously time-consuming.  What I will present here are pictures of the WITT and KEFFER families that I have found, while all genealogy is given in GED form at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=wittkeffer.

My maternal grandparents, Alvy WITT and Lillian KEFFER, were married on June 20, 1927 in Youngstown, Ohio.  The picture below on the left was taken in 1927, probably while they were on their honeymoon in Wisconsin.  The picture on the right was taken at their golden wedding anniversary in 1977.  Alvy died less than a year after the picture was taken, in March 1978; Lillian lived to see her 96^th birthday and died March 11, 2001, the beloved matriarch of a large family.

                             

The family of Alvy WITT and Lillian KEFFER was photographed late in 1947.  Alvy’s mother Mary Elizabeth GOVERNOR WITT is with them (his father Joseph WITT had died in 1943).  The children are (from left) Maureen, Bob (1930-1967), Mary Catherine (my mother), and Gloria.

Genealogy Mistakes - There are bound to be mistakes.  Some are no doubt transcription errors, others are errors in my interpretation of data, a few are errors in the texts I have used, and some resulted when I edited documents.  All are, of course, my responsibility, and I’d be happy to discuss errors.  I’m most concerned with relationship errors.  There are many omissions of dates and offspring, some because I didn’t find the data, but others because I didn’t pursue every family line completely.  I would be happy to discuss these, but I may not add all the offspring of ancestral families.  I will work towards this goal only as I have time, and if the family is not already well-documented on the Web.

Names - Working from Madison, WI, my sources have mostly been the census records, transcriptions of church records, and county and family histories.  Clearly some names have been spelled different ways (e.g. SLEESMAN/SLEASMAN), some have changed in spelling over time (e.g. GOUVERNEUR/GOVERNOR), and different families took different spellings.  I cannot claim to know exactly which family used which spelling, but when I do know I have tried to be consistent.
