The Morton and Foster families are descended from EDWARD GILMAN (1555-1613) and his wife Rose Rysse whose son Edward came to America on The Diligent in 1638 and settled at Hingham, Massachusetts, and whose wife was Mary Clark. There are many descendants of this family, many of whom married into other well-documented early colonial families. My Family Tree Maker program database outline of this Gilman's descendants known to me covers 30 pages but has many "dead ends."
My most contemporary (19th-20th Century) GILMAN ancestor(George Henry Gilman 1861-1945, my great grandfather) has not been connected to this family. I feel confident there is a connection unless the vital records found so far for this man are in error and he is not in fact a Gilman, which is the name he went by from at least 1889 until his death.The direct MORTON line from Edward Gilman of Hingham is as follows:
