OBITUARY
"William C. Wooley, eldest son of John K. and Fanny Wooley was born in Prairie Ronde Township, Kalamazoo county, Michigan, June 14, 1840 and died April 19, 1913, aged 72 years 10 months and 5 days.  He spent the greater part of his boyhood days with his grandparents until  the age of 14. In 1854 he moved to Elba township, Gratiot county with his parents, remaining until 1859, when he returned to Kalamazoo.  When the cry for help in the days of the rebellion he was one of the first to respond, joining the Twenty-fifth Michigan Infantry as a private, returning as a Commissary Sergeant at the close of the war. On returning from the war he took up farming with his uncle until 1867. He was united in marriage to Martha Harrison of Schoolcraft, removing to Elba Township in 1870, where they have made their home. To them were born six children, three dying in infancy. There are still living John H. of Highmore South Dakota, who was not able to be present and Claud D. and Cora Pearl Mead of Bannister.  Also one brother George of Elsie.  These with the sorrowing wife are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and a very affectionate father with a host of other relatives and friends.  Mr. Wooley belonged to the G. A. R. and Masonic societies, joining the Masonic Order during his enlistment at Louisville, KY in 1862, becoming a Royal Arch at Schoolcraft in 1877, and at his death was a member of Elsie Lodge, No.238."
