"KILLS SELF TO ESCAPE ARRESTSue also obtained Frank's death certificate which listed the following information:FRANK HARRISON OF SPRINGDALE PREFERS SUICIDE TO ARREST
Gun Fight Ensues When Officer Tries to Serve Warrant Charging Theft of Team
Frank Harrison, who lived about ten miles west of Springdale, shot himself
through the head Wednesday afternoon, after being wounded by Constable
George Williams of Springdale who was attempting to serve a warrant upon him
for the theft of a team of horses. Death resulted. That the officer was not
shot by Harrison was probably due to the fact that Harrison's thumb was
caught in the trigger so that he could not turn the gun.The team, which belonged to A. C. Cooney of Gray, was discovered in Williams
Valley near Clayton, and a coat containing some letters was found in the
wagon. From this and other information, a warrant was issued for the arrest
of Harrison. The latter ran into the brush and disappeared when he saw that
the team and his identity had been recognized.Charles Haines and A. C. Cooney went to Spokane to find Harrison, expecting
to him at the home of his wife there. Williams went to the Harrison ranch
and while he talked to a neighbor in the clearing, called upon him to
surrender. Harrison reached for his gun which was in a shoulder holster and
Williams shot him in the leg. Before Harrison could get action with his gun,
the constable fired a shot into his body. Harrison then turned his gun to
his head and killed himself."
