Charles Botkin and Chrysteen (Breed) Harrison
Family photo of the Charles Botkin and Chrysteen (Breed) Harrison family circa late 1880's.  Charles Botkin Harrison was the son of Nathan Calvin and Anna (Botkin) Harrison.  Nathan was the 5th child of Bazel and Martha (Stillwell) Harrison.  The photo below was submitted by Mildred Wambold, a great granddaughter of Charles and Chrysteen Harrison.

Charles Harrison was first listed as the head of household in the 1860 Federal Census of Hebron Township, McHenry County, Illinois:

Missing from the household were Charles' father Nathan Harrison, his brother Wesley and Matilda's husband Cornelius Burgett.  In 1870 the Charles Harrison family had relocated to Antioch, Lake County, Illinois.  Charles, age 36 and Chrysteen (this time spelled Christina), age 27, were living alone with son Charles, age 5.  In the 1880 Federal Census of Antioch their household listed:

Charles and Chrysteen (Breed) Harrison's three children were:


(13.5.7.1) Charles Calvin Harrison, was born on 24 August 1865 in Illinois and died on 20 March 1951.  He and his wife, Sarah (Pullen) Harrison are both buried near his parents in Hillside Cemetery in Antioch, Illinois.

Charles was first listed as the head of household in the 1900 Federal Census of Antioch Township, Antioch Village, Lake County Illinois, ED# 127, sheet 1A.  Charles, age 34, stated that he was born in August 1865 in Wisconsin and listed both birthplaces of  his parents as Wisconsin.  He and Sarah both stated that they had been married for 11 years, she stated that she had given birth to 4 living children.  Charles listed his occupation as a day laborer; Sarah, age 31, stated that she was born in Minnesota in September 1868 and listed her father's place of birth as England and her mother's as Illinois.  The four children listed in the 1900 household were (all were born in Illinois): Winnie, age 9, born in June 1890; Margaret, age 8, born in April 1892; Ralph, age 4, born in September 1896 and Vivian, age 8 months, born in December 1899.  Both Winnie and Margaret's occupations were listed as "at school".

In 1910 Charles and Sarah were recorded in Waukegan Township, Waukegan City, Lake County, ED# 113, sheet 9A.  They both stated that they had been married for 21 years and that this was their first marriage; Sarah stated that she had given birth to 5 living children.  Charles listed his age as 44 and stated that he was born in Illinois and that his father was born in Michigan and his mother's place of birth was New York.  Sarah listed her age as 41 and listed her birthplace as Minnesota and again listed her father's birthplace as England and her mother's birthplace as Illinois.  Charles listed his occupation as an engineer in a wire mill.  The four children listed in their 1910 household were: Margaret C., age 17, occupation listed as a machine operator in a factory; Ralph W., age 14; Vivian J. age 10 and Harry A. age 7.

In 1920 Charles and "Sadie" were again enumerated in Waukegan Township, Waukegan City, Lake County, ED# 279, sheets 9B and 10A.  Charles listed his age as 54 and his occupation as a mechanical engineer in a wire mill.  Sadie was 51, their street address was difficult to make out, I read it as 116 Edison Court.  The children still at home were: Ralph W. age 24, occupation boiler maker in a wire mill and Harry age 17, occupation listed as a clerk in a grocery store.

In the 1930 Federal Census they were again recorded in Waukegan Township, Waukegan City, Lake County, ED# 78, sheet 43A.  Charles was 64 and Sadie was 61, he listed his occupation as a gateman for the electric railroad.  Also listed was their son Harry age 27, who was now married, harry listed his occupation as a truck driver for a bakery.  Harry's wife was Marie age 23 born in Illinois.

From the "Antioch News", his obituary, dated 22 March 1951:

"CHARLES HARRISON, 85, FORMERLY OF ANTIOCH WILL BE BURIED HERE"

    "Charles C. Harrison, 85, of 17 Edison Ct., Waukegan, formerly of Antioch, died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Lake County General Hospital, following a stroke.
    He was born August 24, 1865, in McHenry County, and moved from Antioch to Waukegan 48 years ago.
    He married Sarah Pullen 63 years ago on Dec. 31, 1887, at Genoa, Wis.  She survives him, as do two sons, Ralph of Waukegan, and Harry of Kenosha, and a daughter, Mrs. Vivian Schuman, Waukegan.  A brother, Andrew Harrison, resides in Portland, Ore.
    There are 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
    The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Strang Funeral Home with the Rev. G. Richard Tuttle in charge.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery."

And the obituary of his wife of 63 years, Sarah (Pullen) Harrison:
"FUNERAL SERVICES TODAY FOR MRS. SARAH HARRISON, 87, FORMERLY OF ANTIOCH"
"Mrs. Sarah Harrison, 87, of 17 Edison Ct., Waukegan, a former Antioch resident, died at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Lake County General Hospital, Waukegan, following a four-week illness.
    Born in a sod house in Clayton, Faribault county, Minnesota, Sept. 25, 1868, Sarah Pullen Harrison was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Pullen, Antioch.
    She came with her parents to Antioch in a covered wagon in 1874 when she was but six years old, living here until 1903, when she moved to Waukegan.  Her marriage to Charles C. Harrison took place Dec. 31, 1888 at Genoa Junction, Wis.  They had observed their 63rd wedding anniversary before his death on March 20, 1951.
    Mrs. Harrison at her death was the head of a five generation group.  She is survived by two sons, Ralph H. Harrison, Waukegan, and Harry Harrison, Kenosha, and a daughter, Mrs. Vivian Schuman, Waukegan; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. today at the Strang Funeral Home in Antioch with the Rev. Howard Benson officiating.  Burial was at Hillside cemetery."
From census data Charles Harrison and Sarah Pullen had five children:
(13.5.7.1.1)  Winnie Harrison (probably Winifred), was born in June 1890 in Illinois; she was not mentioned in either of her parents obituaries.
 

(13.5.7.1.2) Margaret Christina Harrison, was born in April 1892 in Illinois; she was not mentioned in either of her parents obituaries.  She married Paul Arthur Pangborne and had a daughter, she died when her daughter was just 20 months old.


(13.5.7.1.3) Ralph Wayne Harrison, was born in September 1896 in Illinois.  Ralph Harrison is listed in the SSNDI, date of birth listed as 12 September 1895, date of death listed as November 1969 in Waukegan, Lake County, Illinois.  His WW I draft registration also listed his date of birth as 12 September 1896, address listed as 116 Edison Ct., Waukegan.

Ralph was married by 1930 and recorded living in Newport Township, Wadsworth Town, Lake County, Illinois, ED# 55, sheet 4A.  Ralph W. was age 34 and his wife Gladys M. was age 27.  They had a house full of daughters.  Ralph stated that he was married at age 24 and Gladys stated that she was 17.  Ralph listed his occupation as a signalman for the steam railroad, the daughters were listed were:  Dolores E., age 9; Virginia H., age 7; Winifred G., age 5; Lula M., age 2 years and 11 months and Margaret G. age 1 year and 5 months (the census was recorded on 9 April 1930).


(13.5.7.1.4) Vivian Harrison, was born in December 1899 in Illinois.  She was listed as Mrs. Vivian Schuman of Waukegan, in both obituaries of her parents.  Vivian Schuman appears in the California Death Index, date of birth listed as 3 December 1901 (the SSNDI lists her date of birth as 3 December 1899), place of birth listed as Illinois, date of death listed as 13 January 1970 in Los Angeles.  Her obituary from the Long Beach Independent dated 14 January 1970:


(13.5.7.1.5) Harry Andrew Harrison, was born on 1 September 1902 in Illinois and died on 24 August 1997.  Harry married Marie Brown in 1926, she died in 1974.  Their obituaries form the Kenosha News dated Monday, 25 August 1997 and Tuesday, 15 October 1974:

Harry A. Harrison

Harry A. Harrison, 94, a resident of Brookside Care Center, 3506 Washington Road, died there Sunday (Aug. 24, 1997).  Born Sept 1, 1902, in Waukegan, Ill., he was the son of the late Charles C. and Sarah M. (Pullen) Harrison.  He attended schools in Waukegan.  On Sept. 8, 1926, he married Marie Brown in Libertyville, Ill.  She died on Oct. 15, 1974.  Well known at Brookside and throughout the Kenosha schools for his cartoon drawings, he was also a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.  A planter, he worked for Erik Planting until he retired in 1954.  Surviving are two daughters, Yvonne Lindas of Kenosha and Shirley LaGrossa of St. Augustine, Fla; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  He also was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.  Proko Funeral Home-West, 5111-60th St., is in charge of arrangements.
 
Marie Harrison

Mrs. Harry A. Harrison, 67, 6245-32nd Ave., died at St. Catherine's Hospital this morning following a long illness.  She was born Marie E. Brown on Jan. 8, 1907, in Ottawa, Ill., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Brown.  She resided in Illinois until moving to Kenosha 25 years ago.  On Sept. 8, 1926, in Libertyville, Ill., she married Harry A. Harrison.  Mrs. Harrison was a member of the Kenosha County Multiple Sclerosis Society, and of St. Thomas church.  Survivors besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Cross, Waukesha, Wis.; and Mrs. Norman (Yvonne) Lindas, Kenosha; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Charles Brown, Alpine, Calif.; Arthur, Waubena, Wis; and Albert, Waukegan, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. LaVerne (Lillian) Duggan, Pacific Grove, Calif.


(13.5.7.2) Maud Irene Harrison, was born in about 1875.  She married William A. Story in about 1891.  From the 1920 Federal Census of Antioch, Lake County, Illinois roll #T625_381, page 7B (all family members were born in Illinois):

Story, was born in about 1895 in Illinois.  In the 1930 Federal Census of Antioch, Lake County, Illinois, ED# 2, on Channel Lake Road, Ellis appears to be living with his in-laws.  The households listed (Ellis gave his age at marriage as 26, Ada gave her age at marriage as 21; Ellis is shown as both a son in law, and written above is "Head", Ada is listed as a daughter, written above is "Wife"):

(13.5.7.2.3) Frank H. Story, was born in about 1908 in Illinois.  In the 1930 Federal Census of Janesville, Rock County, Wisconsin, ED# 33, at 320 Dodge St., Frank's household included (Frank gave his age at marriage as 19, his wife Anna gave her age at marriage as 21, she also listed her father's birthplace as Norway and her mother's birthplace as Wisconsin):

(13.5.7.2.4) Ida M. Story, was born in about 1912 in Illinois.

(13.5.7.3) Nathan Andrew Harrison, was born in 1882.  From the "Antioch News", dated 7 May 1953:

"N.A. HARRISON, 70, FORMERLY OF ANTIOCH, DIES IN PORTLAND, ORE."

    "Nathan A. Harrison, 70, former resident, died Sunday, May 3, at his home in Portland, Ore.  He had been in poor health for some time but suffered a heart attack while mowing the lawn at his home on Tuesday, April 28, and became critical.  Cause of death was diagnosed as angina pectoris.

    Mr. Harrison, known as Andy or Doc to his friends in Antioch, was born in the village June 17, 1882 and lived here until 12 years ago when he and his family moved to Portland, Ore.  While here he engaged in carpentering and operated the Waukegan Oil Co., before it was sold to Sinclair Refining Co.

    Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Eva Clark Harrison, and a daughter, Mrs. Belulah Grieve of the home.  Ernest Clark and Mrs. Ova Aronson of Antioch are brother-in-law and sister-in-law respectively.  The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. yesterday in Portland.

    Word of the death was received by the Earl Horton's who visited the Harrison's last year."
