Edna A. Harrison and James Burgett Some of the information below was sent By Dick Chilton, of Genoa City, Wisconsin.  Dick is a local historian who has done some great work researching the family farms of the area.  Edna Ann (Harrison) Burgett was the daughter of Nathan and Anna (Botkin) Harrison.

From the History of McHenry County, Illinois, page 714:

"James Burgett, a native of Steuben County, N.Y., came West to La Porte County, Ind., in 1850 and thence the same year to Mc Henry County.  Having a desire to see the country famed for its wealth of precious ore, he, in company with Jonathan Buckland and brother Henry, started overland for the Pacific Coast.  The journey was made with horse teams, four mustangs to each team.  The roads were lined with emigrants and they experienced severe hardship while crossing the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  The provision of the party in question gave out and they had to stop at Salt Lake and procure more.  As soon as the the man for whom they worked could thresh his wheat he took a grist to mill and gave them all the flour they needed.  James Burgett spent four years working in the mines in California, and in the fall of 1854 returned to McHenry County, and made his first purchase of land on section 11, Hebron Township.  That his choice was a wise one is proved by his prosperity.  In January, 1855, he was married to Edna A., daughter of Nathan and Annie A. Harrison, early settlers of the township.  They came from Michigan in 1846 and settled on the farm owned by Mr. Burgett.  Mr. and Mrs. Burgett have ten children [sic, the second source lists only nine; listing no daughter named Elizabeth] --George, Annie E., Elizabeth, Harry H., Nathan C., Chester V., Myrtle I., Charles W., Ella O., and Louis N.  George was married Jan. 1, 1844 [sic, a second reference page 883 "Family Biographies" says that they were married in 1884], to Mary Marchant [sic, the second reference gives her name as "Merchant"] of La Porte County, Ind., and lives on one of his father's farms, Annie was married in 1878 to Frances Whitney, of Walworth County, Wis."

From the "Family Biographies", on page 883, the following additional information and family data:

"On the farm was [a] cheese factory, farmers of this area hauled their products to Southport, now Kenosha, Wis. [and] brought back supplies.  Mr. Burgett hauled material to build [a] brick house, finished [in] 1880.  James Burgett m [married in] 1855 Edna Harrison [she was born] B1838- [and died in] D1903, [arrived in] A1846 from Michigan; children - 9:"

While James Burgett was out exploring the west in about 1850, Conrad Burgett had already established his household in Bloomfield Township, Walworth County, in 1850:
#769 779   Conrad Burgett    53    m    Farmer    1000    New York
                Elizabeth               52     f                                   "     "
                Cornelius              16    m     Farmer                  "     "
                William                 10    m                                Ohio
                John                       4    m                                Indiana
After their marriage in 1855, James and Edna (Harrison) Burgett were first enumerated in the 1860 Federal Census of the town of Bloomfield, Post Office Genoa, Walworth County, Wisconsin, page 59, enumerated on the 19th of June:
#435 175    James Burgett    30    m    Farmer    2,000    500    N.Y.
                   Edna                  21     f                                          Mich
                   Geo. F.                1    m                                         Wisc.
                   James Welsh      14    m                                          Do.
Also of note in the 1860 census of Bloomfield, just a few households above James and Edna Burgett's household, were the families of "Coonrod" [sic, Conrad] and Charles Burgett:
#431 171    Coonrod Burgett    63    m    Farmer    2,000    500    Do. [N.Y.]
                   Elizabeth               62     f                                          Do.
                   John                      14    m                                         Indiana

#432 172    Charles Burgett      28    m      Do.        1,000    300    N.Y.
                   Mary                      23     f                                          Indiana
                   Isaac                       2    m                                         Wisc.
                   Charles A.                1    m                                         Wisc.

Although I haven't yet been able to connect them yet--I believe that James Burgett and Cornelius Burgett were brothers or very closely related, the 1850 census proved that Cornelius was Conrad Burgett's son (Corneilus married Edna Harrison's sister, Matilda (Harrison) Burgett).  Frederick Burgett's biography and the biography of James Burgett contain too many coincidences.  In the biography of Frederick Burgett, the nephew of James Burgett, it mentions Conrad Burgett as his paternal grandfather.  The biography also stated that Conrad Burgett was from New York and made his home in Walworth County until about 1865 when he went to Nebraska where he subsequently met his death.  Two of Conrad Burgett's sons from the 1850 census were in Nebraska in 1870.  From the 1870 Federal Census of Township 1, Range 14, Post Office Wells Mills, Richardson County, Nebraska listed:
#27 28    Burgett, Charles    39    m    Farming            5000    2000     New York
Mary    33     f     Keeping house                          Indiana

John Burgett, age 14, born in Indiana, listed in the 1860 household of "Coonrod" Burgett was also listed in the 1870 Federal Census of Post Office Pawnee City, Pawnee County, Nebraska:

The James and Edna Burgett family was listed next in the 1870 Federal Census of the town of Hebron, Post Office Hebron, McHenry County, Illinois, enumerated on the 17th of August:

The children of James Burgett and Edna Ann Harrison were:

13.5.9.1 George Franklin Burgett, was born in November 1857 and died in 1926.  He married Mary Merchant in 1884.  She was born in April 1855 in La Porte County, Indiana.  They were living in Bloomfield Township, Walworth County, in the 1900 Federal Census.  George listed his occupation as a "Engineer" "Stationary".  They had one son:

13.5.9.1.1 Glen Burgett, was born February 1885 in Illinois and died in 1949.  He married  Clara Kimball, she was born in about 1878 and died in 1930.  In the 1920 Federal Census they were living in Bloomfield Township, Walworth County, Wisconsin, ED# 136, sheet 5B.  Glen, listed his age as 33 and his occupation as a "farmer".  Clara, age 41, listed her birthplace as Wisconsin and her parents birthplace as Germany.  In the 1930 Federal Census, Glen, age 45, was widowed and was again enumerated in Bloomfield Township, Walworth County, Wisconsin, ED# 1, sheet 1A.  Their four children were:

13.5.9.1.1.4 Warren H. Burgett, was born in about 1921 in Wisconsin.

13.5.9.1.2 Anna Elizabeth Burgett, was born in September 1861 in Wisconsin and died in 1911.  She married Francis Beverly Whiting in 1878, in Walworth County, Wisconsin (they were married and living together in the 1880 census, in the household of his father, William H. Whiting, age 66, widowed, occupation listed as an engraver, birthplace listed as New York, in Bloomfield Township, Walworth County, Wisconsin).  Francis Whiting was age 21, birthplace listed as New York, occupation farmer.  Anna E., was age 19, birthplace listed as Wisconsin, father's birthplace listed as New York, mother's birthplace listed as Michigan.  I did locate the Whiting family in the 1900 Federal Census of the City of Davenport Township, Scott County, Iowa, ED# 130, sheet 2B, enumerated on the 2nd of June (Frank and Anna both stated that they had been married for 21 years; Anna stated that she had given birth to 3 living children):

In the 1910 Federal Census the Whiting family was still living in Davenport, 5th Ward, Scott County, Iowa, ED# 144, sheet 2B, address 409 E. 14th Street. Frank listed his age as 51 and his occupation as a "store keeper" railroad.  Anna listed her age as 49, birthplace Wisconsin, father's birthplace as new York and her mother's place of birth as Michigan.  Catherine was age 29 still single and living with her parents.  William was now 13.  Frank and Anna both stated that they had been married for 30 years; Anna stated that she had given birth to 3 living children.

In the 1920 Federal Census at the same address, in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, ED# 168, sheet 2A, "F.B. Whiting", was age 61 and widowed, he worked for the city water department.  "Katherine A.", was now 39, single and working in a boarding house.  William was now 23 and working as a bookkeeper at a "machine co."  I included the 1930 census data under Catherine below--

Their three children listed in Harry Burgett's work were:

13.5.9.1.2.1 Catherine A. Whiting, was born in September 1881 in Wisconsin.  She was unmarried through the 1920 census and headed a household in the 1930 Federal census of Davenport, 6th Ward, Scott County, Iowa, ED# 46, sheet 11B, address 908 E. 14th Street consisting of herself, age 49, single, occupation none (there were boaders in the home).  Her father, Frank B. was now 71 and still widowed.

Afong, they had three children (not listed).  The "Quad-Cities Memory Project" gives their date of marriage as 2 May 1906 in Scott County, Iowa.  I could not locate Albert and Elizabeth until the 1930 census.  They were living in the Honolulu, Island of Oahu, Hawaii Territory, ED# 74, sheet 15A:

In the 1920 census Harvey was widowed and living with his brother Charles (see below).  Harry Burgett's family data listed five children (I rearranged the birth order to match the census data):

13.5.9.1.3.1 Rita A. Burgett, was born in June 1888 in Illinois.  According to the family data by Harry Burgett, she died in 1938.  She was not listed in the 1910 household.  Rita did marry, she was listed in the 1920 Federal Census of Rockford City 4th Ward, Rockford Township, Winnebago County, Illinois, ED# 192, sheet 12B:
