Descendants of Joseph Harrison and Jennie Sliter
William "Uncle Billy" Harrison was the oldest son of Bazel and Martha (Stillwell) Harrison.  Listed below are the descendants of his son, Joseph Harrison and his wife Jennie Sliter.  Joseph mother, America Harrison was the daughter of Joseph Harrison I and Bathsheba Oglesby.  Family data was contributed by Justin Herbst, Irene Townsend, Loraine Washburn, Roeberta Shingledecker, Dean and Karen Fisher and Christine Sheridan.

13.1.8.1/15.6.5.1 Clarence Ulysses Harrison, born 17 January, 1869 in Charleston Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan and died in 1905.  He is buried in Roof Cemetery.  He married Grace M. Halladay on 30 December 1897, Jan Getz submitted a copy of their marriage certificate.  Grace was the daughter of Frayer Halladay and Elizabeth McIllmurry.  Clarence was a druggist but worked on the farm.  His obituary below dated 13 April 1905 from the Climax Cereal, was subitted by Jan Getz:

LAID AT REST.

    "The remains of the late Clarence Harrison were brought from his home in Dighton last week and the funeral was held at the home of his parents in Chjarleston township last Sunday, conducted by the Masonic lodge of this place.  A large concourse of Brothers and friends were present.  The burial took place at the Methodist cemetery north of town.

OBITUARY

    Clarence Ulysses Harrison, the eldest son of Joseph and Jennie Harrison was born at their residence on January 17, 1869 and died at his home in Dighjton April 4, 1905, aged 36 years, 2 months and 18 days.  He was united in marriage December 30, 1897 to Grace M. Halladay of Ashton, and have since been located at Leroy, Lansing and Dighton.  Besides his widow he leaves a mother, father, two brothers, William S. and J. Cassius and one sister Mrs. Dottie Stevenes [sic] to mourn his loss.
    The deceased was a member of the F. & A. M. lodge of Climax, the Royal Arch chapter of Lansing and also the Elks of the latter place."

Grace Harrison never remarried and Jan Getz also contributed the obituary of Grace (Halladay) Harrison dated 18 February 1952 from the Kalamazoo Gazette:

MRS. GRACE HARRISON

CLIMAX, Mich. - "Sevices for Mrs. Grace Harrison, 75, who died Saturday at her home here, will be held at 11 Tuesday in the Burk and Hoag funeral home.  Burial will be in the Ashton, Mich., cemetery.  She leaves one sister, Mrs. William Breen of Grand Rapids."


13.1.8.2/15.6.5.2William Spencer Harrison, was born on 24 August 1870 and died in 1913.  He did marry and had a family.  He is buried in Roof Cemetery in Climax, Michigan.


13.1.8.3/15.6.5.3  Joseph Cassius Harrison II, was born on 21 September 1875 in Michigan and died in 1952.  He is  buried in Prairie Home Cemetery, in Climax Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.  Joseph married Burnella Force on 2 February 1898, in Climax, Michigan.  She was born on 3 April 1877 in Rome, Wisconsin and died in 1959.  She is also buried in Prairie Home Cemetery.  Burnella was the daughter of Walter & Myrtle B. Robinson Force.

Jan Getz submitted a copy of Burnella's obituary from the Kalamazoo Gazette dated 23 November 1959:

HARRISON, Burnella,
Climax, Michigan--

"Passed away Saturday night in a Battle Creek Hospital after a short illness.  Mrs. Harrison was born on April 3, 1877 in Rome, Wis., the daughter of Walter and Myrtle Robinson Force, and had resided in Climax most of her life.  She was a member of the Climax Library.  Mrs. Harrison is survived by five sons and one daughter, J.C. of Lawrence, William of Hastings, Clarence and Robert of Climax, David of Hickory Corners, and Margurete Radcliff [sic, Ratcliff] of Climax; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Copley of Nashville and Mrs. Bessie Kloack of Michigan Center.  Services will be held at the Burk & Hoag Funeral Home, Climax, Tuesday at 2 p.m.  Burial in Prairie Home Cemetery."

(13.1.8.3.2/15.6.5.3.2) William D. Harrison  was born in about 1904.  His obituary appeared in the Kalamazoo Gazette on Wednesday, 12 August 1981, submitted by Marie Mackey:

"Passed away Monday evening Aug 10 1981in Hastings.  Mr Harrison was born April 12 1904, in Charleston Twp., (Kalamazoo Co) Mich., son of Joseph C. & Bernella [sic, Burnella] Force Harrison & had been a resident of Hastings since 1953, previously living in Climax.  Before his retirement he was employed by the Clark Equipment Co., in Battle Creek for 19 years.  He served the U.S. Army during W.W II & was a member of the Climax-Scotts American Legion Post 465.  Surviving are his wife, Ruby, one son, Gerald Harrison; three step-children, Robert Tobey, Mrs Sonia Edmunds & James Tobey; 11 grand-children,; 2 great grand-children ; 4 brothers, J. C. of Lawrence, Clarence, Robert R. & David W., all of Climax; several nieces & nephews.  He was preceeded in death by a sister Mrs. Marguerite Ratcliff on April 11 1981.  Services will be held Thursday at 2 o'clock at the LANGELAND CLIMAX CHAPEL 205 E. Maple Rev. Mr. W. James Alfred of the Climax United Methodist Church, officiating.  Internment in  Roof Cemetery, with military honors by the Climax-Scotts American Legion Post 465.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund.  Friends may call at the Climax Chapel."


(13.1.8.3.3/15.6.5.3.3) Clarence U. "Fuzz" Harrison, born on 7 January 1906 in Charleston Township and died on 26 February 1991 in Kalamazoo (obituary).  Clarence married married Leona Stofflet in 1933 and was a lifelong resident of the Climax area.  Leona passed away in 2002 (her obituary).


(13.1.8.3.4/15.6.5.3.4) Marguerite Harrison, was born in about 1909, she married (1st) Ward O. Burroughs in about 1929, he died in 1947 and is buried in Prairie Home Cemetery.  Ward and Marguerite are listed in the 1930 Federal Census of Climax Village, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 7, sheet 1A.  Ward, listed his age as 25, place of birth Michigan, he stated that his parents were both also born in Michigan, his occupation was listed as an "station attendant" at an "oil station".  Ward stated that he was married at age 24.  Marguerite was listed as age 21, she stated that she was married at age 20, she had no occupation listed.

Marguerite married (2nd) Kenneth Ratcliff in 1949, he died in 1957 according to her obituary.  Marguerite died on April 11 1981, she is buried in Prairie Home Cemetery.  Her obituary from the Kalamazoo Gazette was submitted by Marie Mackey:

"Passed away Tuesday evening Apri 7, 1981 in Battle Creek, Michigan.  Mrs. Ratcliff was born Jan 7, 1909 in Charleston Twp., Kalamazoo County,Michigan the daughter of Joseph C. & Burnella Force Harrison and had been a life resident of the Climax area.  She was a member of the O. E. S. Maple Leaf Chapter No. 291.  Prior to her retirement she was employed with the Industrial State Bank, Augusta Branch as assistant mgr. for over 25 years.  Formerly she had been employed with the Climax & Augusta Telephone companies.  She was preceeded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ratliff on June 22 1957.  Surviving are 5 brothers & sisters-in-law, J. C. Harrison and Blanche of Lawrence, William D. and Ruby Harrison of Hastings, Clarence U. and Leona Harrison, Robert R. and Bernice Harrison, David W. and Evelyn Harrison all of Climax; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday afternoon at  1 o'clock from the LANGELAND CLIMAX CHAPEL 205 E. Maple with Rev Mr. James Allred of the Climax United Methodist Church officiating. Internment in Prairie Home Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society."


(13.1.8.3.5/15.6.5.3.5) Aileen Harrison, was born on 7 May 1911 and died on 26 June 1911.  She is buried in Prairie Home Cemetery.


(13.1.8.3.6/15.6.5.3.6) Burdette Harrison, died on 17 July 1912, and is buried in Prairie Home Cemetery.


(13.1.8.3.7/15.6.5.3.7) Robert R. Harrison, born on 24 August 1915, in Climax Township, Michigan and died on 6 March 1987 in Kalamazoo.  He is buried in Roof Cemetery (obituary).  He married Bernice Marie Knauss on 26 April 1942, she was born on 9 June 1921, in Brady Township, Michigan the daughter of Bert Knauss and Cora Cross.  Their children were:

(13.1.8.3.8/15.6.5.3.8) David "Bud" Harrison  born on 4 March 1920, in Battle Creek, Calhoun County, Michigan and died on 20 September 1985 (obituary).  Bud was a WWII Veteran, he is buried in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.  He married Evelyn Hazen on 17 March 1945.  Their children were:

13.1.8.4/15.6.5.4  Dottie Bell Harrison, was born on 28 October 1881.  In the 1900 census she was age 18 and living in the household of her parents, Joseph and Jennie Harrison in Charleston Township.  Dottie married Elmer J. Stevens in 1904.


In the 1910 Federal Census of Kalamazoo City, 1st Ward, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 128, sheet 4A, their household listed (Dottie and Elmer both stated that they had been married for 5 years; Dottie also stated that she had given birth to 2 living children):
