Cynthia Harrison and Henry Whipple
Descendants of Cynthia Harrison and Henry Whipple, Cynthia was the daughter of Bazel and Martha (Stillwell) Harrison.

Henry Whipple and Cynthia Harrison
From “History of Kalamazoo County, Michigan”, Everts and Abbott, 1880, as a footnote on page 444:
*At the pioneer meeting in 1873, R.C. Hoyt stated that his father came here in 1827 and looked at the country and returned to Ohio.  “The next year (1828) I came out with him, and father picked out the place where Judge Harrison resides” In returning home in the fall of 1828, Mr. Hoyt said that he and his father and his uncle met Judge Harrison and family near Ft. Wayne.  The wagon of Henry Whipple, the judge’s son-in-law, had broken down, and they had all stopped to fix it up.  “That night us youngsters, the judge’s boys and girls and myself, went to a tavern near by, kept by a Frenchman, and danced there till eleven o’clock.”  If Stephen Hoyt visited the prairie in 1827, he gazed upon it earlier than even John Bair.”
The following census data was contributed by Cathy Gowdy:

Henry and Cynthia Harrison  Whipple are listed on the 1840 and 1850 Federal Census of Kalamazoo County, Michigan; four of five children listed in 1850 were named:

William- born ~1826
Larinda - b. March 6, 1831; d. July 18, 1851; buried in Harrison Cemetery, in Prairie Ronde Township, marker reads "Lucinda Lapp".
Lucien  - b. ~1835
Cynthia - b. ~1845
Henry and Cynthia (Harrison) Whipple were living in Florence, Goodhue County, Minnesota in 1860 and 1870.  Henry's return continues to show his birth about 1800 in Connecticut.  Cynthia's place of birth in both instances is given as Pennsylvania; in 1860 her age is very difficult to read, but in 1870 she returns born in about 1807.  In the 1860 Federal Census, their two daughters, Cynthia, age 18, and Arminda, age 11, both born in Michigan, were the only two children left in the household.  Fifteen households further down the road in 1860, lived the James M. and Worlender (Harrison) Fellows and the David and Rocksy Vining families.

Additional Minnesota State Census data/information for the Henry and Cynthia Whipple family is listed at http://www.whipple.org/docs/census.html

The children of Cynthia Harrison and Henry Whipple were:

13.6.1 William Whipple. According to the Hallock Genealogy William Whipple married Mary Hallock, daughter of Augustus Van Courtlandt Hallock and Catherine O'Neil, residents of Climax Prairie, [Kalamazoo County, Michigan] who "Came from Orange Co. [New York] about 1836."  It lists Mary Hallock's birth as 1833.

In 1860, William Whipple returns show his birth in about 1826 in Ohio.  He and his wife, Mary, have had two children: Henry, born in about 1852 in Michigan, and Nettie, born in about 1857 in Minnesota. This family was still in Minnesota in 1870 and remarkably the birth years for match exactly.  In the 1870 Federal Census, William and Mary lived in the town of Florence, Goodhue County, Minnesota.  William was age 44, born in Ohio, Mary was 38, birthplace listed as New York.  The two children listed in the 1870 household were: son, Henry, age 18 born in Michigan and daughter, Nettie M., age 13 born in Minnesota.

William H. Whipple and his wife Mary appear in a transcription of Lakewood Cemetery , William's marker shows his birth as "8 Apr 1829" and his death as "4 Jan 1904".  Mary's marker shows her birth as "10 May 1833" and her death as "25 Jan 1915".

In the 1880 Federal Census of Florence Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota ED# 161, page 311A, William and Mary were living next door to their son Henry (a few doors away in household #8 was the Horace "Oscar" and Martha (Harrison) Vining family; Robert Steel, the nephew listed below was the son of Mary (Hallock) Whipple's sister, Errilla (Hallock) Steel, wife of Milan Steel):

#2  2    Whipple, Henry B.    m    28                  Farmer               Michigan
Alice A.      f     27    wife        Keeping house    Pennsylvania
                         Ethel L.      f      1    Daughter                          Minnesota
#3  3    Whipple, Wm.          m    54                  Farmer              Ohio
Mary           f     48    wife         Keeping house   New York
Steel, Robert           m    13    nephew    at school           Wisconsin
Their two children were:
13.6.1.1 Henry B. Whipple, was born in 1851 in Michigan and according to his transcribed marker in Lakewood Cemetery, died in 1926.  In the 1900 Federal Census of Lake City, Wabasha County, Minnesota, ED# 46, sheets 1B and 2A, his household listed (both Henry and Alice stated that they had been married for 24 years; Alice stated that she had given birth to 2 living children):
#23 Whipple, Henry B. Head Aug 1852  47 Michigan Michigan Michigan Farm Laborer
Alice C.  Wife  Sept  1854  45  Pennsylvania Ohio Michigan
Whipple, Ethel L. Daughter Jan 1879  21 Minnesota  Michigan Pennsylvania Stenographer
Lucy D.  Daughter  June 1882  17 Minnesota  Michigan Pennsylvania  Photographer
The 1926 date is a little confusing--, his wife, Alice stated that she was widowed in the 1910 Federal Census and I could not locate Henry in 1910.  From the 1910 Federal Census of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, ED# 195, sheet 24B (Lucy and George both stated that they had been married for 7 years; Lucy stated that she had given birth to 1 living child):

#230 264  Knutson, George W. head  m  27  Minnesota Norwegian Norwegian    barber own shop
Lucy    wife    f   27  Minnesota  Michigan  Pennsylvania  none
Ethel daughter f     5  Minnesota                                    none
Whipple, Alice  mother-in-law f   56  wd  Pennsylvania  United States  United States  nurse private cases

Alice also appears in the Lakewood Cemetery transcription, she died in 1946.  However, Henry's reported death by his wife Alice, seems to be in error, he does appear in the 1920 Federal Census of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, ED# 252, sheet 5A.  Henry and Alice were living with their daughter, "Lucy" and their son-in-law, George W. Knutson.  Lucy and George's daughter Ethel, age 15, was also living in their home.  Their two daughters were:

13.6.1.1.1 Ethel Whipple, was born in January 1879 in Minnesota.

13.6.1.1.2 Lucy Whipple, was born in June 1882 (1900 census), the Minnesota Death Certificate Index lists Lucy Whipple Knutson's date of birth as 7 June 1885 and her date of death as 30 November 1960 in Hennepin County.  Her death record lists her mother's maiden name as "Canfield".

Census data indicates that Lucy married George W. Knutson in about 1903.  George died in 1946, he and Lucy are both listed in the transcription of Lakewood Cemetery, in Lake City, Wabasha County, Minnesota.

In the 1930 Federal Census of Minnetonka, Hennepin County, Minnesota, ED# 285, sheet 15B, their household consisted of:

#411 457  Knuton, George W.  Head  47  Minnesota Norway Norway    Barber Shop
Lucy  Wife  47  Minnesota  Michigan  Pennsylvania  None
Staples, Ethel Daughter 24  Minnesota  Minnesota  Minnesota  None
Virginia Step Daughter   Minnesota Minnesota Minnesota  None

Lucy (Whipple) and George Knutson's known daughter was:

13.6.1.1.2.1 Ethel Knutson, was born in about 1905.

13.6.1.2 Nettie Whipple, born in about 1857 in Minnesota.

13.6.2 Lurinda Lapp Whipple, was born on 6 March 1831 and died on 18 July 1851.  She is buried in Harrison Cemetery, in Prairie Ronde Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.

13.6.3 Lucien Henry Whipple, or Lucian Henry Whipple, was born in December 1833 in Michigan.  The Minnesota Death Index lists his date of death as 1 April 1907 in Goodhue County.  His death record listed the following information:

1907 Died Apr 1 Central Point tp Goodhue
Mitral Regugitation    10 yrs.
Epitheliome of eye

He and his wife, Emma are both listed in the transcription of Lakewood Cemetery, in Lake City, Wabasha County, Minnesota.  Emma is listed as "Emma A. Whipple 1839-1899".

The 1860 Federal Census of Goodhue County, Minnesota shows his birth in about 1835 in Michigan.  His wife is listed as Emma and they have also had a son named William, age 1 and a son named Cassa Bianka, who is 4 months old.  Since the census was taken in July, that places Cassa's birth in about March 1860.

The 1870 Federal Census is very faint and difficult to make out.  Lucian and Emma were enumerated in Central Point, Goodhue County, Minnesota.  Chidren listed in the 1870 household were: William, age 11; Cassa B., age 10 years--he was listed as a female; Levina, age 7; Grant, age 5; Allena, age 3; and Laura, age 8 months, birth month listed as "Oct".

In the 1880 Federal Census of Central Point Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota ED# 161, their household listed:

#46  48    Whipple, Lucian   m   45                     Farmer               Michigan
Emma    f    39    wife           Keeping House    Wisconsin

Lury        f     9     daughter    At Home              Minnesota
Corry Belle   f     1     daughter    At Home              Minnesota

20 years later in the 1900 Federal Census of Central Point Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota ED# 39, page 59A:

13.6.4 Cynthia Whipple, was born in about 1842 in Michigan.  In the 1860 census, she was unmarried and living with Henry and Cynthia, her parents.

13.6.5 Arminda Whipple, born in about 1849 in Michigan.
