WILLIAM L. BURROW 1847-1929
RACHEL M. DYE 1850-1928

A photo of William Burrow - 1902.
William L. "Billy" Burrow was born in Hillsdale, Macon County, Tennessee, April 20, 1847, to Jarrel Burrow and Emiline Wright.  He died January 1, 1929 in Illinois and was buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Colchester, McDonough County, Illinois.

William married Rachel M. Dye on September 14, 1869, at Carthage, Hancock County.  Marriage License  (61k)

Rachel Dye, found as Rachel Minerva Dye in some sources, was born July 30, 1850*, probably in McDonough County, the daughter of James Madison Dye and Rebecca Brown.  Rachel died one day before William, on December 31, 1928, and was buried next to him at Mount Auburn Cemetery.  Tombstone & obituaries

Biography from the 1921 Scofield History of Hancock County, Illinois.

Rachel and her two sisters, Laura Jane and Margaret, were left bereft of both parents for a time when Rebecca, James Dye's second wife, was found guilty of his murder in the mid 1850's.  Laura Jane and Rachel were taken in by Calvin and Miranda Hart Simmons; Rachel remained with them for some years, perhaps until she and Billy Burrow were married.  The eldest Burrow child, James, would eventually marry Calvin's and Miranda's granddaughter, Jennie Simmons.

i. James P. Burrow, born April 9, 1870, died August 15, 1955, in Carthage, Hancock County.  He was buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery.

ii. Parielee Burrow, born January 10, 1872, died August 6, 1947, in Macomb, McDonough County.  Burial at Mount Auburn Cemetery.

iii. Eva G. Burrow, born about 1874, died after 1955.

iv. Taylor S. Burrow, born May 10, 1876*.  He died April 23, 1877, and was buried at Majorville Cemetery, Hancock Township, Hancock County.

vi. Bessie Burrow, born about 1879 in Illinois.  She died after 1955.

vii. Lyman W. Burrow, born October 6, 1883, died in 1957 at Macomb, interment at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
