IDA M. ALTON & HOMER VINCENT

Ida M. Alton was born in Fountain Green Township, Hancock County, Illinois about November 1855.  She was the daughter of Walter S. Allton and Elizabeth Fancher.

She married Homer Vincent on December 27, 1877, in Hancock County, at "Father's Residence", presumably Ida's father.  Marriage License  (76k)

Homer, born about June 1852 in Illinois, was the son of Jerry and Perthena Vincent, originally from New York and Ohio, respectively.

Ida and Homer lived in Fountain Green Township for a few years and began their family there.  In the early 1880's they moved to Page County, Iowa, where they apparently spent the rest of their lives.  As of April 12, 1881, they were still in Hancock County.  At that time, Homer was a witness to the marriage of Walter S. Allton and Sidney Parker.  Ishmael, author of the Fountain Green local news column for The Republican, wrote on August 25, 1890, that among others visiting in the vicinity was "Mrs. Homer Vincint of Page Co., Iowa".

The children of Ida Alton and Homer Vincent were:

i. Robert Vincent, born about December 1878, probably in Fountain Green Township.  He perished at the age of 8 months in July of 1879; the cause of death was cholera infantum.

ii. Merlin Vincent, born about 1881 probably in Fountain Green Township.  Found as Merlin and Merle, middle initial S or C.

iii. Ernest Vincent, born about March 1886 in Iowa, probably Page County.  Found as F. Ernest and Ernest F.

iv. Bessie A. Vincent, born about 1889 in Iowa, probably Page County.
