William Henry Berges, the son of Henry C. Berges and Mary George, was born in 1870 in Illinois, probably Hire Township, McDonough County.

William married Verdelia J. Duffy on March 17, 1897.  They were married by Theo. Hunter at the home of Samuel Duffy in Hancock County.  Witnesses to the marriage were S. B. Duffy and Mrs. M. W. Pennock.  Marriage Documents (59k, 50k)

Verdelia, born March 22, 1873, in Hancock Township, Hancock County, Illinois, was the daughter of Samuel Spangler Duffy and Frances Meeks.

William and Verdelia's children were:

i. Frances Berges, born in Illinois, probably Hire Township, McDonough County, about 1877.
 
ii. William Hugh Berges, born August 18, 1899, in Missouri.
 
iii. Henry Berges, about 1902 in Illinois, probably Hire Township, McDonough County.
 
iv. Howard Berges, born about 1904 in Illinois, probably Hire Township, McDonough County.
 
v. Lawrence Berges, born about 1905 in Illinois, probably Hire Township, McDonough County.
 

Verdelia died on May 20, 1908, at the family home in McDonough County, and was buried in Fountain Green Cemetery, Hancock County.  William remained in McDonough County for a time, then moved his entire family to Knox County, Missouri.  He was counted there in the censuses of 1920 and 1930.  William died in 1952, location undetermined, burial at Fountain Green Cemetery.
