![]() Early Sunday morning, May 26, 1935, following a sudden illness of only a week, and though all that faithful medical skill and loving hands could do, Mrs. Mary C. Callihan fell peacefully and quietly into eternal rest, at her home in Fountain Green, Ill. Mary Catherine, oldest child of Solomin and Mary Miller Weiser, was born at Plum Creek, near Sunbury Pa., April 23, 1851. When still a small child she with her parents moved to a farm near Northumberland, Pa. There she grew to young womanhood and there April 22, 1869, she was led to the altar by Jacob Callihan, of Lancaster Pa., and for fifty-three years they journeyed down the pathway of life together. In the spring of 1872 Mr. and Mrs. Callihan came with her parents westward, locating at Fountain Gren [sic], Ill., where she has since continuously resided. To this worthy and esteemed couple were born five sons and two daughters. Frank and Charles passed away when babes, and George, the eldest and well beloved, who for many years was a minister of the gospel, serving the M. E. Church with large gifts of mind and heart, until his consecrated labors were ended to answer the Master's summons in 1919. Besides the husband and sons, Mrs. Callihan was preceded in death by her father and mother, three brothers, Jake, Douglas and Cyrus Weiser, four sisters, Misses Emma and Ella Weiser, Mrs. Sarah Duffy and Mrs. Amelia Allton. Remaining today to mourn the loss of this dear one are two sons, Lynn D. of Macomb, Ill.; Tressler W., of Boston. Mass.; two daughters, Misses Emma and Kathryn, who since the death of their father, April 9, 1925, have so tenderly cared for her. These, with four grandchildren, Miss Lillian and James Callihan of Macomb, Ill., William and John Callihan of Boston, Mass.; the daughter-in-law, Mrs. Flora Callihan, of Carthage, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Lillian W. Robinson, of Dallas City, Ill., and one brother, M. L. Weiser, of Macomb, Ill., complete the immediate family circle, who are bereft of one who was always thoughtful of their comfort and welfare. Mrs. Callihan's life was one of unremitting industry and her energies were devoted to the furtherance of family interests. Her ambitions centered especially around the educational advancements of her sons, daughters and grandchildren and for this she lived and labored. Her reward came when she saw them filling positions of honor and trust. Her pride and gratitude in their success well repaid her for her self-denial and sacrifices. Her home was always open to her many friends and her hospitality extended to all. She dearly loved company, was especially fond of children and to them it was a pleasure to spend a time with "Aunt Kate", as they all called her. When but a child she was confirmed in the Lutheran church. After coming to Fountain Green her membership was transferred from that church to the M. E. Church here and to this she has always been a faithful and loyal member, having been quite active in all church work until the church at this place was disbanded. After a long life of faithful labor she has passed on to a well earned rest and reward.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Fountain Green Tuesday morning, May 28th, at 10 a. m., Rev. H. M. Bloomer, of Lincoln, Ill., assisted by Rev. J. M. Thompson and Dr. E. F. Bartholomew, officiating. Pall bearers were Harold Murtland, George Miller, Guy Ebert, Otis Burrow and Floyd Hamm.
