Pfc. Franklin "Mack" Peck", 21, who was killed in action December 16, in Germany. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Peck of the Joetta community, have received a letter from the chaplain of the Ninth infantry stating that the body was taken back to Belgium for military burial with Protestant services.

Joetta Soldier Killed Dec. 16 In Germany
Pvt. Franklin Carmack Peck, 21, of the Joetta community near Fountain Green, was killed in action while serving with the infantry in Germany, it was stated in a telegram received from the war department yesterday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Peck of Joetta.
The telegram gave no details except that he was killed December 16, but stated that a letter containing more details will follow.
Pvt. Peck, a graduate of Colchester high school in 1941, had been overseas since last June, and was inducted into military service last January. His parents have been informed by the war department that Pvt. Peck had received decorations for gallantry in action but have not received the medals and do not know the nature of the awards nor the circumstances under which he won them.
The soldier was born in July, 1923, on the home place in Hancock township, Hancock county, where the parents reside, and where he was engaged in farming at the time of his induction. Pvt Peck was graduated in 1940 from the three-year high school at Fountain Green, and completed his senior year at Colchester. Surviving besides the parents is a sister, Wanda, who is employed at Camp Ellis.
