WILLIAM BURROW
1808-1888

A photograph of William Burrow's tombstone.

IN MEMORY OF
WILLIAM BURROW
BORN
OCT. 27, 1808
DIED OCT. 29, 1888

AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH, HIS HOME WAS IN MACON CO TENN, HIS NATIVE STATE. THERE HE JOINED THE BAPTIST CHURCH IN 1843 AND LIVED A MEMBER THE REMAINDER OF HIS DAYS, A KIND NEIGHBOR, A FAITHFUL CITIZEN AND A LOVING HUSBAND AND FATHER.

THOU ARE FAR FROM HOME FATHER, BUT LOVE NEVER DIES AND KNOWS NEITHER SEASON NOR PLACE, AND OFTEN TEARS FATHER WELL UP IN OUR EYES.  WE MISS THY DEAR FORM AND FACE BUT GOD KNOWS BEST WHO ON HIM RELIES, WILL SEE ALL THE TOKENS OF HIS GRACE.

The fact that this sizeable tombstone was erected at Majorville Cemetery, in combination with the inscription, suggests that William Burrow died while visiting family in Hancock County.  We believe he was the father of:

Martin W. Burrow.  Martin was living in Hancock County by 1869, when he married Carmilla Burrow.  Martin spent most of the rest of his life in Hancock County.

Zachary Taylor Burrow.  Zachary spent at least a short time in Hancock County.  In 1872 he married Mary Jane Burrow, Carmilla's sister, before returning with his bride to Tennessee, where they made their home with his father.
