Thanks to Mary Frances Jacobson, second great-granddaughter of Philip and Mary, for providing Mary's true maiden name, Slaybaugh.  Francie's information comes from numerous family interviews and is substantiated by two sources:

- An autobiography written by Howard Ebert, published in a special edition of the Ellensburg Capital, December 1, 1902, dedicated to the history of Kittitas County, Washington.

- The Board of Health document prepared when Daniel Ebert married Sarah Denison.  That form is available for inspection via a link below.  Mary's maiden name is incomplete, but the letters Slaybau... are visible.

Philip Ebert was born February 11, 1811, in Pennsylvania, died July 28, 1887, probably in Hancock Township, Hancock County, Illinois.

His wife was Mary A. Slaybaugh, who was born April 13, 1815, in Pennsylvania, died May 21, probably in Hancock Township, Hancock County.

According to the obituary of Daniel Ebert, Philip and Mary were the parents of twelve children.  We can account for nine of them.

i. Amos Ebert, born about 1835 in Pennsylvania.  He married Sarah A. Bloyd on May 25, 1862, in Hancock County, Illinois.

ii. William Ebert, born about 1837 in Pennsylvania.

iii. Howard Ebert, born about 1839 in Pennsylvania.

iv. Daniel Ebert, born May 26, 1841, in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.  He died May 10, 1926, in Fountain Green Township, Hancock County, interment at Majorville Cemetery.

v. Sophia Ebert, born about 1845 in Pennsylvania.  She died June 28, 1930, in Lombard, Du Page County, Illinois, burial location undetermined.

vi. Abraham Ebert, born July 18, 1846, in Pennsylvania.  He died January 18, 1896, probably in Hancock County, and was buried at Majorville Cemetery.

vii. Mary Jane Ebert, born about 1852 in Illinois, probably Hancock Township.  It appears that Mary Jane was the surviving sister named as Mrs. Jennie Long of Farragut, Iowa, in the obituary of Daniel Ebert (May 1926).  State of Illinois marriage records show a Jennie Ebert married William H. Long on November 14, 1872, in McDonough County, Illinois.

In August of 1936, Mary Jane Ebert Long of Shenandoah, Iowa, sent a letter which was read at the Majorville Reunion commemorating the 35th anniversary of the construction of the second Majorville Church.

viii. Lidia Ann Ebert, born about 1855 in Illinois, probably Hancock Township.  Lidia appeared in the 1860 census but was not enumerated in the family home in 1870.

ix. Ella Bell Ebert, born about 1858 in Illinois, probably Hancock Township.  She was counted in the 1860 census, but was not named in 1870.

An entry on the 1860 Mortality Schedule for Hancock Township seems to document Ella's death in November of 1859 - but there's a conflict.  This list documented deaths of Hancock Township residents between May 31, 1859, and June 1, 1860.

The only Ebert family counted in Hancock Township in 1860 was that of Philip and Mary, and we have found no documentation indicating that another Ebert family lived there previously.  If Ella Bell was the 2 year old girl listed on the Mortality Schedule, she should not have been listed with the family on the regular census page, which was supposed to record only persons living in the home as of June 1, 1860.
