Andrew Jackson Mull, son of Abraham and Hannah Mull, came from Kortright, Delaware County, New York, to Hancock County, Illinois, sometime between June 1860 and January 1862.
On January 7, 1862, he went to the office of the Hancock County Clerk, who prepared an affidavit by which Andrew attested that both he and Miss Anna "Missick" were of age and that her father had given his full consent to their marriage. They were married on the evening of the 16th at the United Presbyterian Church in Fountain Green by Rev. W. H. Buchanan. Anna and Samuel Mesick were the children of Fiet and Sarah (Dean) Mesick, both from New York. Sarah died around 1845 and Fiet remarried. Obviously we cannot get the whole fabric of a family's history from census records, just a thread or two, but these threads seem to tell a sad story.
In 1860 Fiet, Celestia and Dora were living in Fountain Green Township in the vicinity of Webster, but the other children were scattered. Listed as adopted, Samuel, 14, and Loderna, 12, were living in St. Marys Township with Parley and Catherine Belknap, a couple in their 60s. Anna's whereabouts are unsure, but we think she was living with Regardless of where Anna Mesick was in 1860, the point is that she wasn't listed with her father and stepmother, and she wasn't listed with her siblings. A. J. and Anna established themselves in Fountain Green Township and spent the next 55 years together. He died in March of 1917. Anna died March 16, 1928, at Carthage, Hancock County. They were both buried at Majorville Cemetery. See also: A. J. and Anna's children were probably all born in Fountain Green Township:

March 21, 1928 Friday morning, March 16, 1928, the death angel again visited our midst taking as its toll one of our oldest citizens. Anna Mesick Mull, daughter of Fiet and Sarah Dean Mesick was born April 2, 1842 in Columbia county, New York and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Flora Callihan in Carthage, Ill., being at the time of her death 86 years old. When Mrs. Mull was a child of three, her mother died. Her father married again in 1846. Soon afterward, Mrs. Mull with her father, step-mother, one sister and one brother moved to Fountain Green, Ill. which place has been her home with the exception of the last few years during which time she has lived with her daughter, Flora, in Carthage. In 1862, she was married to Andrew Jackson Mull to which union seven children were born, Frank Albert of Fountain Green; Isaac Sherman of Paris, Mo.; William Fiet of Galesburg, and Mrs. Flora Callihan of Carthage who are living and Mrs. Jessie Mull Duffy, Mrs. Mary Mull Graham and Guy Prentice Mull having preceded her in death. The husband passed away in March, 1917. Besides the living children, a half sister, Mrs. Isaac Bodenhammer of Plymouth; thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends mourn her departure. When a child Mrs. Mull united with the U. P. church in Fountain Green, in which she remained a faithful member until the disbanding of that church. She then cast her lot with the Methodist church of the same place. Mrs. Mull was a faithful servant in the services of her Master, exemplifying by her daily life the spirit of Christianity. For a long period of years she was an active teacher in the Methdist Sunday school of Fountain Green. With untiring energy and a cheerful spirit she carried on the duties of life until her tasks were finished and the Master said, "Well done." In October, 1927 Mrs. Mull contracted a severe cold from which, due to her advanced years and other complications, he [sic] never recovered. During the months of her illness she was tenderly cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Flora Callihan. Everything was done to make her fleeting days on earth comfortable and happy. Relatives and friends brightened her hours with cheery visits and numerous floral expressions of their love and esteem for her.
God grant we may rest as calmly When our work like hers is done. Til' then we yield with gladness Our mother to Him to keep, And rejoice in the sweet assurance He giveth His loved one sleep. Funeral services were held at the Ostrich Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Arthur Cates. Hugh Alton of Hamilton accompanied by Miss Anna Sebree sang beautifully two selections, "The City Four Square" and "Looking This Way." Interment in the Majorville cemetery. The large attendance and the lovely floral tributes attested the high esteem of many her friends. Among those from a distance attended the services were Isaac Mull[,] Paris, Mo.; William Mull, Galesburg; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Graham, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Duffy, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hendrickson, Paul Graham, Charles Mesick, Lynn Callihan, Lillian and James, Macomb; Mrs. Isaac Bodenhammer, Plymouth; Mrs. Kate Callihan, Misses Katherine and Emma Callihan, and Hugh Alton, Hamilton; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Mull and family, Blandinsville; Mr. and Mrs. Farlin Duffy, Burnside.
We desire to express our gratitude to all friends and neighbors for their abounding goodness to us during mother's illness and death and for the beautiful floral offerings.
Will and Arch Mull.
