Betsy shares this tombstone with her daughter, Emily C. Beckwith Alba, and the death dates inscribed are inaccurate for both of them.  One possibility is that this stone was placed some years after their deaths and the purchaser had, by then, forgotten the precise dates.

Both Betsy and Emily were counted in the 1870 Federal Census.  According to family history, Betsy actually died in the summer of 1876, alone in her garden.  Her body was found by a neighbor's child.

Betsy was quite a character; she might take some cantankerous pleasure to know that well over 100 years later, people are puzzling over the facts of her life.  Census listings for Betsy are inconsistent; we have little confidence in the birth year of 1800.
