HENRY MANS

HENRY MANS

After several decades of repression and a strong desire for reform (constitutions, parliaments) had developed among the educated and wealthy bourgeoisie, while the peasants resented the still present feudal dues, unemployment among small artisans made them join the revolutionary cause in hopes of secure jobs. Others came in ships to America in hope to escape the persecution and give their families freedom from the repression. One of these families was Henry Mans and his wife Mary along with their two children, William and Henry. It is unknown where they landed, but most likely it was in the port of New York. They found their way to Indiana where Henry and Mary show up in the Gibson County 1840 Census. In the 1860 Census we find the son Henry who had married within the year to Elizabeth Malone, daughter of Andrew Jackson Malone and Lydia Yeager. Henry acquire quite a bit of land and begins to farm and raise a family. Elizabeth died on 25 Feb. 1914 and Henry followed her on 04 Feb. 1917. They are both buried in Mead Cemetery alongside an infant grave.

Below is a photo of Otho Jackson Mans, grandson of Henry and Elizabeth Mans.
