Henry HAWKS [Parents] was born 25 Aug 1822 in Grayson Co., VA. He died 30 Dec 1888 in Grayson Co., VA. Henry married Mary Ann Sarah COMBS on 20 Dec 1845 in Surry Co., NC.

Enlisted in 45th Virginia Infantry on 3/24/64 at Saltville. Present or absent not stated on final roll. He received clothing 4th qtr. 1864. Wounded in the shoulder and lung at Winchester, 9/19/64.

Mary Ann Sarah COMBS [Parents] was born about 1823. She died 21 Jun 1908. Mary married Henry HAWKS on 20 Dec 1845 in Surry Co., NC.

Levi Franklin PHIPPS [Parents] "Lee" was born 11 Apr 1861 in Virginia. He died 1936. Lee married Rebecca Jane BARRETT on 2 Dec 1901 in Bear Wallow, Buchanan Co., VA.

Lee and Jane sold the coal, mineral, timber, oil and metal rights on a 50-acre parcel of land they owned at the head of Dismal Creek to George W. St. Clair on December 30, 1901.

It is told that Lee died in some form of horse-riding accident, that he didn't return home one day and was found by family members who went in search of him.

Rebecca Jane BARRETT "Jane" was born 1883 in War, WV. She died 1959. Jane married Levi Franklin PHIPPS on 2 Dec 1901 in Bear Wallow, Buchanan Co., VA.
