Clarence had polio as a child and had no children. He was a draftsman signpainter at one time. He was also an inventor.

George Ben WHITED [Parents] was born 23 Oct 1910 in Russell Co., VA. He died 30 Jul 2003 in Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon, Russell Co., VA and was buried 1 Aug 2003 in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Russell Co., VA. George married Lavie TATE.

LEBANON -- George Ben Whited, 92, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2003, in the Russell County Medical Center.

Born October 23, 1910, in Russell County, a son of the late Dr. E. P. Whited and Ida Boyd Whited of Honaker, he was the husband of the late Lavie Tate Whited. A graduate of Emory & Henry College, he was employed by the Russell County School Board for 35 years, serving as a teacher, assistant principal and principal of Lebanon High School for 18 years, and as principal of Givens Elementary School for five years, retiring in 1973.

Mr. Whited was a member of the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church, where he had served as Sunday School superintendent and had served on various boards of the church. He was a former agent for Jefferson Standard Insurance Co., a member of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge 251 A. F. & A. M., a past president of the Russell County Education Association, a member and past president of the Lebanon Lions Club. He had worked in the Boy Scouts of America in Russell County, was a past president of the Board of Directors of the Russell County Rescue Squad, and a former member of the Executive Committee of the Virginia High School League.

The Town of Lebanon honored Mr. Whited by naming the street between Lebanon High School and Lebanon Elementary School, George Ben Whited Drive, for his work as an educator and years of service to the community.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy Whited and Fay Whited, and a sister, Catherine Harris.

Survivors include a son, George Ben Whited Jr., Johnson City; a brother, Robert J. Whited, Honaker, and six nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2003, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Carter officiating. Burial with Masonic rites conducted by the Lebanon Masonic Lodge 251 A. F. & A. M. will follow in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Kelly Nipper, Ben Valley, Jamie Farley, Bill Lawson, Bill Cross, and Frank Horton. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Dickenson, J. S. Easterly Jr., Paul Helvey and Emmett Buckles. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Combs Funeral Service is serving the Whited family.

Lavie TATE died. She married George Ben WHITED.

Hannah ALEXANDER was born 8 Apr 1844 in Russell Co., VA. She died 1920 in Virginia. Hannah married John James PLASTER Jr. on 5 Nov 1868 in Russell Co., VA.

They had the following children:

Elkanah PLASTER was born 17 Oct 1872 in Russell Co., VA. He died 23 Sep 1901 in Russell Co., VA.

Elkanah's grave stone gives his birthdate as October 17, 1884, but his World War I draft card states 1872.  He is also listed as age 6 on the 1880 Census in Russell Co., VA, so he was obviously born before 1884.
