Ancestors and Relatives of Mark Allan Holt
Here is a PAF-generated set of pages that represents most of the ancestors that I have identified. I'm using "I" loosely here... in a few cases I've gotten quite a bit of help.
Major Surnames
My Day research is currently focused around William Day, born in (probably) Hampshire County, VA in 1801. William was my 4th great-grandfather. Evidence suggests that he was one of three sons of William Day and Nancy Brown. He married Ann (or Anna) Pugh, daughter of Jacob Pugh, in 1824. William and Ann had at least eight children, and apparently lived their entire lives in the Hampshire County, VA/WV area.
My Kaylor research currently centers on Nicholas Kaylor, born between 1807-1808 in (probably) Hampshire County, VA Nicholas was my 4th great-grandfather. He married Rebecca Johnson in Cumberland, MD in 1829. Nicholas and Rebecca had at least seven children.
William Calhoun Cessna was my 2nd great-grandfather. Despite some valiant attempts, I've been unable (so far) to identify William's parents. I believe that he was born in the Cumberland Valley of Bedford County, PA in 1851. He married Sarah Ann (or Anna) Smith in the mid-to-late 1870's. At least some of William's children were born and baptized in the Cresaptown, Allegany County, MD area. After Sarah died in 1903, William remained in the Cumberland, MD area for the remainder of his life... he died in 1932. A William Calhoun Cessna family reunion is held every year on the third Saturday in August.
Joseph and Eliza Moody Holt (my 2nd great-grandparents) emigrated from England in 1880. A Holt reunion celebrating Joseph and Eliza is held every year, on the second Sunday in August, at Constitution Park in Cumberland, MD.
George William Shoemaker and Anna Jane Baer were my 2nd great-grandparents. They were married in the Meyersdale, Somerset County, PA area in 1886, where all/most of their 10 children were born. They moved into the Cumberland, MD area before 1910.
