Harry and Elizabeth
are gentle souls, who treated us to orange cookies, and hospitably showed
us some of the family keepsakes. Among them, the beautiful bowl painted
by Aunt Anna V. "Annie" Marker.
And the photo of Uncle Joseph Brant Marker and their father Harry
with their horses. They also had a silver cup from the Ligonier Valley
Fair. Now, to fully appreciate this, one must realize that the area
has a long tradition of fine horses and horse races, and fox hunts.
We then left for the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, about 3 miles south of Ligonier,
where many of the early ancestors of this family are buried.
Dennis Marker, from IL, is surrounded by ancestors.

We stopped
for a visit to the old Brant School house, and the Brant Cemetery, one
of the oldest in the area. Then on back to Ligonier, stopping to
visit the family in the Ligonier Valley Cemetery.
We finished
our tour with the Marker Middle School, so named because it is located
on the David R. and son James Marker farm. Thank you, Louise,
for arranging a great tour of the area. Other participants were Louise's
husband, Karl, Gwen Frazee Marker, Donna Knupp, Tom Bitner, and Harry &
Elizabeth Marker.
