Henry & Caroline Miller Rifle
Henry & Caroline Miller Rifle
According to the owner, the following is a caplock rifle, converted
from a flintlock. Family tradition says that it was carried by the
Millers when they left Meyersdale, Somerset Co., PA to Missoula MT in 1869.
A 12" ruler is used to show scale.
Henry Miller was s/o Anna Maria Walker & Wm. Miller. Anna Maria
was d/o Jacob II Walker and Catherine Marker. Henry married Caroline
Bittner d/o George Bittner & Elizabeth Walker. Elizabeth Walker was
d/o Jacob I Walker & Elizabeth Kuhlman Walker.
.
The rifle is currently owned by Dr.
Charles Leach, of CT, Henry & Anna Maria's great grandson.
There was a family of Marker
gunsmiths in the Frederick Co. MD area, not known to be related to
the Somerset Co. PA Marker family. It would be interesting to compare to
photos of the Marker rifles, if anyone can share photos or scans.
