Descendants of William Terrall Generation No. 1 1. William1 Terrall was born Abt. 1710 in Wales or
poss. Hanover Co., VA, and died 14 Oct 1784 in Bennettsville, Marlboro, SC. He
married Anne <Unknown>. Notes for William Terrall: "Came to Charleston, SC 1737 with wife and two children. " When William Terrell petitioned for land in SC in 1737 he asked for 200
acres, meaning there were 4 in his family @ 50 acres apiece. That would seem to
imply wife and two children born before 1737 elsewhere. (thanks to Robert
Franklin Davidson rfdavid@aol.com) Petitioned for bounty land, and was given land in the Welch Tract of St.
David's Parish, later Marlboro County. Petition does not state where he came
from. Some books claim he came from Wales (immigrating through Philadelphia, but
not residing there long). I'd love to see the sources. Many of his neighbors
came from Quaker churches in Delaware. One record from the Ancestral File of the LDS Church indicates that William
is the son of William b 1650 England. Pure speculation links that William to the
William, identified as William Terrill, born 1650 England, in the right county
at the right time with grandchildren marrying people with his wife's last name.
The 60 year old age of the father raises eyebrows. I have chosen not to make the
link. The circumstantial evidence linking this family to the Virginia Terrells is
high. Several Terrell families, including Richmond, Philemon and another,
resided in a relatively small area on both sides of the river separating
Marlborough Co., SC and Robeson Co., NC. Richmond Terrell is certainly from the

name "Edward Young" in later generations leads this writer to believe that may

(Mississippi Territory) By 1812 he was on the Wayne Co., MS tax rolls. By 1819 he was on the Covington Co., MS tax rolls, where he was shown in the
1820 census. By 1823 he was in Copiah Co., MS. By 1827 he was in Jones Co., MS., where he also appeard on the 1830 census. He died in 1833 in Jasper Co., MS, on the same property that was earlier in
Wayne Co. He did not pay poll tax in 1813, and may have been born in 1762 or 1763. He
served during the Revolution. The following from "Records of Jasper Co. Mississippi" by Jean Strickland &
Patricia N. Edwards, 1995. "The following story of a Revolutionary experience was told to John L.
Lightsey by Edward Terral who fought in the great American struggle for
Independence. John L. Lightsey in turn related it to his son, Joseph B.
Lightsey, who recorded it in his diary Wednesday, October 12, 1853. This diary
is now in possesion of D. M. Lightsey of Louin, Miss. "The story goes as follows: Edward Terral, who enlisted in South Carolina, at
one time was with a company of men who were taken prisoner by the Tories. Night
coming on, they halted. Their captors prepared their prison by cutting down pine
trees and building a pen of the logs, this they called a "Bull Pen", in which
their prisoners were huddled after being tied. A guard was stationed in the door
while the other members indulged in heavy eating and drinking. "Sometime past the midnight hour when all were asleep, Mr. Terral succeeded
in untying his hands, then one by one unloosed his comrades. He then told them
they must make their escape, "to stay there till the break of day was certain
death, for the Tories had condemned them all to be hung the next morning". All
were more than ready to make the effort and follow directions with the exception
fo one fellow who was regarded as the lazy member of the unfortunate band, he
having given up hope and accepted his fate. "Mr. Terral, the leader, then announced he would knock down the guard who sat
knodding at the door, run over and past him, and they were to follow suit. So
saying, he laid the guard full length on the ground and the stampede followed.
All passed out into the open except the lazy fellow afraid to take the chance.
The constant beating of heels against the ground aroused the sleepers who seized
their guns, firing after them without affect. "On and on they ran until they reached the American camp. Here the Captain
with his company pushed back to give the Tories a fight. When they reached the
"Bull Pen" the Tories were in the act of hanging their comrade they left behind,
and just as the sun began to rise behind the eastern hills, a bloody fracas took
place. The Americans killed and captured as prisoners each and every one of
them. Those captured as prisoners, they hung. "And so it was, they met the same fate they had planned for this brave little
company of Americans whose ever present banner was "Give me Liberty or give me

generations, one was married to a Sarah Council, and another was married to a

At Home Of Son Mrs. Martha Terral, 93, A Pioneer Of Winn Parish, Dies Near
Dodson Mrs. Martha Terral, ninety-three years old and one of the oldest
residents of ward seven died at her son, J. R. Terral's home, two miles north of
Dodson, Friday evening. Mrs. Terral moved from Mississippi to Winn Parish in
'59, when a great part of Winn Parish was a trackless wild with a few pioneers
widely scattered through its hills. Her husband, William B. Terral died during
the Civil War. She has six children, the oldest of whom, Mr. John Terral, is 75
years old. Mrs. Terral was known throughout that section of the parish and was
greatly respected for her fidelity to her family and devotion to her community.
Interment was held at the Transport Cemetery five miles northeast of Dodson
Saturday. Rev. H. D. Rockett, pastor of the Dodson Baptist Church conducted the
funeral services. Mrs. Terral is survived by two daughters: Mrs. A. B. Anders,
Miss Lucy Terral; four sons, John, W. B., L. B., and J. R. Terral, all of

Thomas. Little is known at this date of this particular branch
of the Eager family, with the exception that John R. Eager was
born in Jefferson County Virginia in 1817. The county is now a
part of the State of West Virginia. It is known that his
mother's maiden name was Ronamous and that she was of Welch
descent. It is not known when John R. Eager came to Mississippi,
but he was married to Mary Ann Thomas in Jasper County, April
15, 1841. Mary Ann Thomas was the daughter of John Covington Thomas.
John Covington's wife was a Terrell before her marriage. Her
Christian name is not known at this time. John Covington Thomas
was the son of Stephen Thomas and his wife Mary Stephens(or
Stevens). Extant letters show that Stephen and Mary lived In
Tennessee and were relatives of the Thomas family who were among
the first settlers of that state. (See records of Watauga
Settlement in late 18th century") Mississippi records show that John Covington Thomas was a
representative from Jones County, Mississippi in 1827 and 1828
and later served from Jasper County in 1836 and 1837. From 1840
to 1844 he served as State Senator for Jasper, Smith, Newton and
Scott Counties. He is also known to have served as Third
Sergeant in the militia against the Creek Indians under Major
General Andrew Jackson. John R. Eager and his wife moved to Texas In 1884, were both
lived until their deaths - John R. in 1893 (and she in) 1915. Prior to coming to Texas John R. and his wife lived in Drew
County, Arkansas in 1846. It is probably from here that James J.
Eager and his older brother William joined the Confederate Army.
James was about 14 or 15 years old when he joined the army as
drummer boy. Sometime after the war James came to Texas and
joined a group going to Kansas with cattle from Gainesville,
Texas. What he did in Kansas Is unknown except for a term as
