Descendants of John Trussell Generation No. 1 1. Col. John1 Trussell was born Abt. 1605, and died
Bef. 20 Feb 1659/60 in Northumberland Co., VA. He married Mary Claughton
Bef. 1640. She was born Aft. 1611. Notes for Col. John Trussell: Adventurers of Purse and Person, revised and edited by Virginia M. Meyer
(1974-1981) and John Frederick Dorman, FASG (1981-1987); Published by Order of
First Families of Virginia, 1607-1624/5 (Third Edition 1987) "John Trussell came to Virginia, 1622, in the Southampton and was listed,
1623/4, at West and Shirley Hundred, in what is now Charles City County. He was
living there, 1624/5, aged 19, with Thomas Paulett when the muster was taken. On
12 Oct. 1635 he patented 200 acres in Elizabeth City County near the Back River
and adjoining John Grew. This patent was surrendered and renewed in the name of
John Graves. At Elizabeth City on 25 Jan. 1638/9 he deposed he was aged 36 or
thereabouts. At the same time Samuel Nichols deposed that John Trussell had been
undersheriff of Elizabeth City County and as such had sold the goods of Thomas
Lee at outcry. "Trussell next appears in Northumberland, created a county about 1644 from
Indian district Chickacoan. Here he patented, 14 Oct. 1649, 400 acres on the
"souther most side of Chicokolne river," adjoining Mr. John Mottram. On 7 March
1650/1 John Trussell, Gent., added 200 acres adjoining this, one of the
headrights being Mary Trussell. Col. John Trussell and Gervase Dodson patented
1000 acres in Northumberland on the southeast side of Chickacone River,
adjoining Jacob Coutanceau and Col. Mottram, deceased, 29 Nov. 1658. "The earliest record of Northumberland County, 4 May 1644, names John
Trussell as Commander of Northumberland. He deposed, 20 May 1653, that he was
aged 50 or thereabouts. He served as Burgess for the county, 1649, 1651-52, and
1654-55. He was a justice, 1653, vestryman of Chickoan Congregation, Nov. 1653,
lieutenant colonel, 1655, and colonel of militia, 1659. "Administration of the estate of Col. John Trussell, deceased, was granted to
Mary Trussell, the relict, 20 Feb. 1659/60. Mary, whose maiden name is not
known, married (2), by 10 Feb. 1662/3, Robert Gooch." [end quote] Will of George Higgins. Dated 27th of Novem. 1648. "My loving friend Mr John
Trussell of Northumberland in Virginia" sole Executor. This Trussell family record was found in WFT 5-3634. It showed that Franklin
M. Trussell of Isle of Wight was the father, but that is not supported by any
known record. Richard Russell, 1000 acs. Northumberland Co., 25 Sept. 1657, p. 158, (232).
Ely. upon Chinkahane Cr. or Mr. Preslyes Cr. Nly. upon land of Col. Mattron, sd.
Presly & Col. Trussell. 1705/6 March 12. William Grady of Stafford County to John Shirley of
Northumberland - one moity (half) of 100 acres located near the head of Coan
River, said land first granted to Col. John Trussell and by him assigned to
James Claughton, who assigned it to Robert Seck and John Coutanceau, who divided
it. Coutanceau then sold his 50 acres to Henry Moseley, who sold it to Jos.
Edmunds whose attorney sold it to John Oliver. Oliver died without heirs, and
the land escheated and was bougth by Robert Wilson who had married Oliver's
widow. They sold the land to Walter Grady, whose heir was the said William
Grady. Said land located on King's Creek. [Northumberland Co., VA abstracts] http://users.erols.com/tvf/oath.html includes oaths of allegiance in

Vincent http://www.geocities.com/~dbratcher/Land/LandVANorthum.htm Children of John Trussell and Mary Claughton are: 2 i. Elizabeth2 Trussell, born Aft. 1640 in VA. Notes for Elizabeth Trussell: daughter of John by his "now wife Mary", was given a heifer,
20 May 1653, by Matthew Rodham. Note: There was only one known Matthew Rodham during this
era, and he was married to Elizabeth Hewitt. On 8 June 1664, "Mathew Rhodam" of Northumberland Co. was
granted 393 acres of land in that county. 100 acres were
situated northernly upon Hugh Lee's land, southernly upon an old
Indian field and westernly upon land of James Clayton. 288 acres
were situated southeasternly upon the head of a swamp of King's
Creek, northeasternly toward land of Col. John Matrom, and five
acres were at the head of the aforesaid land and betwixt land of
Capt. Rogers and Col. Jno. Trussell. + 3 ii. John Trussell II, born Bet. 1640 - 1660 in VA; died
Bef. 16 Jan 1694/95 in Northumberland Co., VA. 4 iii. Anna Trussell, born Aft. 1640. 5 iv. William Trussell. Generation No. 2 3. John2 Trussell II (John1) was born
Bet. 1640 - 1660 in VA, and died Bef. 16 Jan 1694/95 in Northumberland Co., VA.
He married Elizabeth Chinn Bef. 1670, daughter of John Chynn and
Elizabeth Travers. She was born Bef. 1654 in Morattico Creek, Lancaster, VA, and
died Bef. 06 Dec 1698. Notes for John Trussell II: It seems likely that there was a Col. John Trussell born in the generation
between the two listed here, as one is called Col. John Trussell in 1664, some
years after the death of the first, and before the second is thought to have
come of age. only Daniel Trussell and Elizabeth are mentioned in one account. From Adventurers of Purse and Person: '... resided in Northumberland County "leaving divers children and his
relict." On 16 Jan 1694/5 "Henry Hudson and Elizabeth his wife, late Elizabeth
Trussell, widow of the said deceased," were ordered to return an inventory of
John Trussell's estate.' Notes for Elizabeth Chinn: Elizabeth married 2nd Henry Hudson Henry Hutson/Hudson were ordered by the Court in 1695 to submit an inventory
of John Trussell's estate and property (Duvall, p 38) Children of John Trussell and Elizabeth Chinn are: 6 i. Robert3 Trussell, born Bef. 1673. Notes for Robert Trussell: From Adventurers of Purse and Person: '... received land by deed of gift, 20 June 1683, and having
died without heirs the land reverted to his father and at the
latter's death descended to "John Trussell, son of John and
brother of Robert." + 7 ii. John Trussell III, born Abt. 1673; died Bef. 18 Sep
1717. 8 iii. Elizabeth Trussell, born Aft. 1673. + 9 iv. William Trussell, born Abt. 1692 in St. Stephens
Par., VA. Generation No. 3 7. John3 Trussell III (John2, John1)
was born Abt. 1673, and died Bef. 18 Sep 1717. He married Jane <Unknown>
Bef. 1710. She was born Bet. 1678 - 1690, and died Abt. 1721. Notes for John Trussell III: From Adventurers of Purse and Person: '... sold to Thomas Barecroft, 20 Dec. 1711, the land inherited from his
brother Robert, "formerly granted to Colonel John Trussell." On the same day,
Thomas Barecroft sold 100 acres to John Trussell of St. Stephen's Parish. John
Trussell married Jane ---, who acknowledged a deed given by him to Thomas
Miller, Jr., 20 Aug. 1712. Trussell was dead by 18 Sept. 1717 when Jane was the
wife of John Harding." Notes for Jane <Unknown>: Jane married 1st John Trussell and 2nd John Harding / John Harden. Her
descendants from both marriages were in Chester Dist., SC and married into some
of the same families. Nelda shared descendants of both branches.
tnbrat2@bellsouth.net Oct. 2003 http://www.geocities.com/tnbrat2/hardin.html Children of John Trussell and Jane <Unknown> are: 10 i. George4 Trussell, born 21 Nov 1710 in
Northumberland Co., VA. 11 ii. Matthew Trussell, born 19 Oct 1715 in Northumberland
Co., VA. Notes for Matthew Trussell: Witnessed the will of William Gill dated 14 Jan. 1746/7. + 12 iii. <Unknown> Trussell, born Bet. 1710 - 1717 in VA. 9. William3 Trussell (John2, John1)
was born Abt. 1692 in St. Stephens Par., VA. He married Mary Spencer. Notes for William Trussell: From Adventurers of Purse and Person: ' ... as "orphan son of John Trussell," chose Henry Hudson (his step-father)
as his guardian, 19 Nov. 1706, and was administrator of Hudson's estate, 16 Jan.
1716/7. On 13 Feb. 1748/9 administration on the estate of William Trussell was
granted to William Trussell. The name of his wife is not known." Notes for Mary Spencer: Her name not proven. Children of William Trussell and Mary Spencer are: 13 i. William4 Trussell II, born Bef. 1727 in
Northumberland Co., VA; died Bef. 11 Mar 1776. Notes for William Trussell II: ' ... died by 11 March 1776 when administration on his estate
was granted to Joseph Hudnall.' 14 ii. Hannah Trussell. + 15 iii. John Trussell, born Bet. 1725 - 1733; died 28 Feb
1754. 16 iv. Thomas Trussell. He married Amanda Kemp. Generation No. 4 12. <Unknown>4 Trussell (John3, John2,
John1) was born Bet. 1710 - 1717 in VA. Notes for <Unknown> Trussell: One of the listed sons of John Trussell III is likely the father of the
branch that was later in Chester Co., SC, as John Trussell III's widow shared
the same migration path with her second husband, John Hardin or John Harden or
John Harding, and their descendants married common family groups. Children of <Unknown> Trussell are: + 17 i. James5 Trussell, born Bet. 1730 - 1750 in
prob. VA; died Bef. 21 Dec 1792 in Chester Dist., SC. + 18 ii. Matthew Trussell, born Bet. 1730 - 1750; died Bef.
01 Dec 1788 in Chester Co., SC. + 19 iii. William Trussell, born Bef. 1735; died Bet. 23 Apr
1808 - 1812 in Chester Co., SC. 15. John4 Trussell (William3, John2,
John1) was born Bet. 1725 - 1733, and died 28 Feb 1754. He married
Mary <Unknown>. She was born Bet. 1731 - 1735. Notes for John Trussell: This link is tentative. Said by some to be John Trussell, b. 1733 in Fredrick Co. Virginia, who died
28 Feb 1754. His wife, Mary, remarried to Richard Rice. It is not certain that the four Trussells that married Kays were siblings. It
is certain that some were in Frederick Co., VA, where the South Carolina
Trussells claim that an early family member was born. The Kay family has long been associated with the Trussell family. In 1782,
Robert Kay was listed in the Prince William County, Virginia tax rolls. Also
listed were Thomas Trussell, Rhody Trussell, and William Trussell. In the 1787
Virginia tax rolls, Rhodam Trussell and William Trussell were still residing in
Prince William County. Robert Kay, Sr. and his son James Kay were found in
Frederick County (now Clarke County), Virginia. The property the Kays lived on
was situated near the border of Loudoun County, Virginia. A Thomas Trussell
family had settled just across the border from the Kays in Loudoun County.
Trussells also lived on Broadmouth Creek in Abbeville County, SC, on land
adjoining the Kays. http://robertkayfamily.org/geneal.htm Went with the Virginia Blues under
Washington in 1755 to the Indian Wars of Braddocks Defeat. He never returned and
was never heard of again. "... died 18 Feb. 1754 leaving, by noncupative will,
25 Feb. 1754 - 13 May 1754, "the bed he then lay on" to his sister Hannah
Trussell" This man was thought by some to be the ancestor of Rhodam Amos Trussell or
Rodham Amos Trussell. The first by this name, Amos Trussell, married Grace Kay. Whether John was the son of William, and where the Rodham name came into the
family, are not certain. Notes for Mary <Unknown>: Mary married 2nd William Rice Children of John Trussell and Mary <Unknown> are: 20 i. Rodham5 Trussell, born Bef. 1754. Notes for Rodham Trussell: Rodham Trussell or Rhodam Trussell was still a minor in 1767.
He joined and deserted from 6th Va Continental Rgt, 1776 and is
listed on 1782-87 tax roll of Prince William county, Virginia. + 21 ii. Amos Rhodam Trussell, born Abt. 1751. 22 iii. Thomas Trussell, born Abt. 1752; died Abt. 1824 in Of
Loudoun Co., VA. He married Elizabeth Kay. Notes for Elizabeth Kay: Elizabeth Kay, daughter of Robert Kay, Sr., is assumed to
have been born in Prince William County, Virginia. Her parents
lived there until 1787 when they moved to Frederick County,
Virginia (present day Clarke County). Her brother, James Kay,
lived on the western slope of Mt. Weather in Frederick County.
Her parents lived on top of Mt. Weather in Frederick County very
near the Loudoun County line. Just across that line in Loudoun
County was the Thomas Trussell household. Elizabeth married a
Thomas Trussell, but it is not known what her husband’s
relationship was to the Thomas Trussell of Loudon County. http://robertkayfamily.org/geneal.htm + 23 iv. Catherine Trussell. + 24 v. <Unknown> Trussell, born Bef. 1754. Generation No. 5 17. James5 Trussell (<Unknown>4, John3,
John2, John1) was born Bet. 1730 - 1750 in prob. VA, and
died Bef. 21 Dec 1792 in Chester Dist., SC. He married Sarah Asher Bef.
1770 in Culpeper Co., VA, daughter of John Asher and Nellie <Unknown>. She was
born Abt. 1750 in Culpeper Co., VA, and died 22 May 1808. Notes for James Trussell: http://www.reynolds-genealogy.com/sak8/trussell_p65.html also has much
detailed info (Feb 2006) By December, 1792, James Trussell has died intestate and the citation is read
by William Woodward. The administrator's bond is signed by Sarah X Trussell
January, 1793. The appraisal was made (filed?) Feb, 1793 and the estate sale
held Oct 1794. In 1788 John Hayes had deeded 150 Acres to James Trussell. This same land was
later sold by heirs of the James who died 1792. Therefore the James of 1788 is
the same as the James who died 1792. 1795 .... Sarah Trussell, widow, makes deed of gift to her children Asher,
Susannah and Sarah Trussell. November, 1805 .... Matthew and Sarah Trussell and William Kelly (son-in law
to Sarah Asher Trussell / husband of Rachel) sign deed for land formerly
belonging to James Trussell, deceased, and bind themselves that this includes
the parts of (i.e.belonging to HK) Matthew, Sarah (widow of James deceased),
William, Benjamin, James, Anna, Sarah, and John Trussell and William Kelly. April, 1807, the same heirs as above, except that Anna is now married to
James Euton and she and sister Sarah sign dowers, sell an additional 258+ acres
belonging to James Trussell, deceased March, 1808 ....Sarah Trussell, Sr of Chester Co sells land to Thos
Cockrill..... Benjamin Trussell @ Moses Grisham, wit March, 1808 .... Asher, Susannah, Sarah and Benjamin Trussell and James
Euton, all of Chester, sell land formerly belonging to James Trussell, deceased Fragment, undated: John Hays and James Trussell, consideration 1000 pounds.
Release of Rights in certain lands to Thomas Baker Franklin, guardian of (rest
missing, but probably Martha Trussell) His farm was adjacent to John Liles and Agnes Cockerell Liles. Both of their
estates were executed by William Woodward. William Woodward's daughter was
married to Arromanus Liles Jr. http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/b/a/i/Michele-Baird/ provided many of
the descendants of this line. http://www.reynolds-genealogy.com/sak8/trussell_p65.html also has much
detailed info (Feb 2006) Notes for Sarah Asher: There is a Sally Trussell on the 1810 Logan County, KY, census that may be
this woman. Was her reported death date the date of her will? Sarah Asher, James Trussell's mother, sold land out of her husbands estate
(James d. 1792) to Thomas Cockril. Children of James Trussell and Sarah Asher are: + 25 i. James6 Trussell, born 11 May 1770 in
Frederick Co., VA; died 18 Oct 1860 in Lauderdale Co., MS. 26 ii. John Asher Trussell, born Abt. 1776. He married
Lucinda <Unknown>. Notes for John Asher Trussell: Also known as Asher Trussell / probably John Asher Trussell. + 27 iii. William T. Trussell, born Bet. 1772 - 1783 in SC;
died Bet. 1830 - 1840 in SC. 28 iv. Matthew Trussell, born Bet. 1771 - 1773 in Chester
Co., SC; died in Of Lauderdale Co., MS. He married Elizabeth
<Unknown>; born in SC. 29 v. Rachel Trussell, born Abt. 1774. She married William
Kelly. 30 vi. Asher Trussell, born Abt. 1776 in TN; died Aft. 15 Feb
1836. 31 vii. Susanna 'Anna' Trussell, born Abt. 1780 in Marion
Co., TN. She married James Euton. Notes for James Euton: or James Eaton + 32 viii. Benjamin Trussell, born 1783 in Chester Dist., SC;
died Abt. 1850 in TN. + 33 ix. Sarah Trussell, born Abt. 1796. 18. Matthew5 Trussell (<Unknown>4, John3,
John2, John1) was born Bet. 1730 - 1750, and died Bef. 01
Dec 1788 in Chester Co., SC. He married Frances Franklin, daughter of
Thomas Franklin and Priscilla <Unknown>. She was born Bef. 1760. Notes for Matthew Trussell: There are no known direct Chester County references to Matthew. There are
references to his widow and daughter Patty. Matthew's widow had remarried twice,
and on the death of her third husband (in 1800, the same month his will is
filed, naming Patty Trussell as step-daughter) "Patty Trussell, orphan of
Matthew Trussell deceased" chooses Amos Tims as guardian. This means Patty was
at least 14 (to be allowed to choose) and under 21 (to require a male guardian).
The bond for that guardianship is dated 180__ (last number missing) and states
Patty is about 20. So this Matthew had a child born ca 1780 - 1786, and would
likely be of the same generation as James and William. He is described in the Franklin genealogy as William Trussell, Jr. in this
citation: "scraps of paper in a mass of miscellany ... 1 Dec 1788 ...Thomas Baker
Franklin as guardian ... rest missing ... Also scraps of estate of William
Trussell, Jr., leaving a widow and one minor child. This I am sure is where
Thomas Baker Franklin was named guardian of his niece, Martha Trussell. However
not enough proof to state definitely but enough which tallies with later data,
to make one reasonably sure." http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ffru/Docs/FFRU_back/andrea.pdf However, on 23 Jul 1793, after Frances was widowed, a deed to Jonathan Dungan
refers to land "now belonging to John Franklin, Thomas Baker Franklin, William
Trussell, Jr. and Moses Grisham, etc." Notes for Frances Franklin: She married 1st Mr. Trussell, 2nd Maj. Grisham, 3rd Mr. Knight. Her mother's
name may have been Priscilla Rogers. Major Moses Grisham's will signed 16 Oct 1800, probated Nov. Court 1800.
Wife, Frances Grisham. Children and all minors: John Rogers Grisham, Thomas Baker Franklin Grisham, Priscilla Grisham,
Frances Franklin Grisham, Sallie Grisham. "My step-daughter Pattsey Trussell to share equal with my children." Exec: Thomas Baker Franklin and Cornelius Dorsey Wit: William Wood, Mary Franklin , John Dorsey Child of Matthew Trussell and Frances Franklin is: 34 i. Martha Franklin 'Patty'6 Trussell, born Bet.
1780 - 1786. Notes for Martha Franklin 'Patty' Trussell: Miss Mary Franklin signed 2 Jul 1802 a deed for "Love and
affection, I bear to my niece Martha Trussell all that was given
to me by my sister, Mrs. Frances Knight who when she gave to me
was Mrs. Frances Grisham by a deed dated 3 Jul 1801 ... " Wit.
Thomas Jinkins and John Grisham. 19. William5 Trussell (<Unknown>4, John3,
John2, John1) was born Bef. 1735, and died Bet. 23 Apr
1808 - 1812 in Chester Co., SC. He married Susannah 'Suckey' Asher Bet.
1755 - 1770 in Frederick Co., VA, daughter of John Asher and Nellie <Unknown>.
She was born Bet. 1740 - 1750, and died Bef. 10 Nov 1828. Notes for William Trussell: Thomas Franklin, with dower by his wife, Priscilla Franklin, signed 9 April
1786 for 138 acres of land part of an original grant to Thomas Franklin on Sandy
River. Wit: Richard Evans, John Franklin, James Trussell. William Trussell of Sandy River, will signed 7 Nov 1803 and probated Oct.
court 1812. Wife, Susannah Trussell, my single children will have the home
plantation when the mother dies: Mary Trussell, Rachel Trussell, Susannah Trussell, Milly Trussell. My married children will divide the rest of the property equal and deceased
children, their children will take their shares, etc. Executor: my son John
Trussell with Richard Evins and John Evins, Jr. Wit: John Kennedy, Samuel Evans and Moses Evans. The author of the Franklin genealogy insists this is the father in law of
Frances Franklin, and that her husband was William Trussell, Jr. However, on 23
Jul 1793, after Frances was widowed, a deed to Jonathan Dungan refers to land
"now belonging to John Franklin, Thomas Baker Franklin, William Trussell, Jr.
and Moses Grisham, etc." I believe that this man, himself, was William Trussell, Jr. Children of William Trussell and Susannah Asher are: 35 i. Mary6 Trussell. 36 ii. Rachel Trussell. 37 iii. Susannah 'Suckey' Trussell. Notes for Susannah 'Suckey' Trussell: George McAliley may have been her husband. Research Notes: George McAliley (born in the 1780's) remained in Chester
County, married a Miss Trussell, served as executor of his
father's estate and appears on the roster of Captain John
Walker's Company of the 1st Regiment of the South Carolina
Militia during the War of 1812 (serving as a substitute for John
Trussell, Sr.). George McAliley had three daughters, believed
named Elizabeth, Milley, and Susa (possibly for Susannah), whose
husbands were, not necessarily repectively, Hiram Miller, Ben
McDonald and a Mr. Cook (who went west). "George McAliley's children were born too soon to be
grandchildren of this John Trussell. It appears possible that
George was widowed at the time of the replacement and that
George's three daughters were cared for by John Trussell and
wife while George did the military service for some additional
agreed upon fee. "After that service two of George's daughters were cared for
by his mother and property transferred to his mother for their
benefit. The third daughter was believed to have been in the
process of getting married and was provided her share around the
time of the marriage. "Some of this is in records and some of it is just
speculation based upon what we do know about George and his wife
Susannah. Susannah's purported parents had five daughters, Mary
and then Rachel the two eldest. Susannah Trussell McAliley's
three daughter bore the names of the other three daughters of
William and Susannah Asher Trussell. We will presume this
strengthens the likelihood of the claim that the daughter
Susannah of William and Susannah was Susannah Trussell McAliley,
at least in the majority of researchers' opinions." + 38 iv. Daniel Trussell, born Abt. 1760 in poss. Frederick
Co., VA; died Abt. 1815 in Carroll Co., GA. + 39 v. John Trussell, born Abt. 1770 in SC; died 25 Apr 1836
in Clinton, Greene, AL. + 40 vi. Elizabeth 'Bettie' Trussell, born 10 Oct 1788; died
20 Oct 1871 in Gadsden Co., FL. + 41 vii. Milley Trussell, born 1791 in Chester Co., SC. 21. Amos Rhodam5 Trussell (John4, William3,
John2, John1) was born Abt. 1751. He married Grace Kay,
daughter of Robert Kay and Priscilla Strother. She was born Abt. 1765. Notes for Amos Rhodam Trussell: Possibly Rodham Amos Trussell; Rhodam Amos Trussell; Amos Rodham Trussell There is speculation that his real name was Rhodam Amos Trussell who was born
ca 1751, the son of John Trussell and Mary (?). Notes for Grace Kay: One of Grace's brothers married Sallie Trussell; probably after moving to SC.
That Sallie had a brother Posey Trussell is known because he d. without
children, 1856, Anderson Co, SC, & left property to his sister Sallie Kay's
children. annakay48@hotmail.com Kay Esberger, July 2001. Children of Amos Trussell and Grace Kay are: + 42 i. Rhodam Amos6 Trussell, Jr., born Abt.
1795. + 43 ii. Ann T. Trussell, born Abt. 1803 in SC. 23. Catherine5 Trussell (John4, William3,
John2, John1) She married William Kay, son of
Robert Kay and Priscilla Strother. He was born Bet. 1775 - 1780 in Prince
William Co., VA, and died Abt. 1854 in Anderson Co., SC. More About William Kay: Burial: Kay Cem. on Broadmouth Creek, Anderson Co., SC Child of Catherine Trussell and William Kay is: + 44 i. Mary Elizabeth6 Kay, born 12 Jan 1806;
died 18 Jul 1887. 24. <Unknown>5 Trussell (John4, William3,
John2, John1) was born Bef. 1754. Notes for <Unknown> Trussell: Two closely related Trussell women, probably sisters or cousins, had
descendants marry and move to South Carolina. Since some married into the Kay
family, as did others of this branch, this speculative placement is made to
assist in research. This could be Thomas Trussell or Rhodam Trussell, or both, fathers of Sallie
and Peggy. Children of <Unknown> Trussell are: 45 i. Posey6 Trussell, born Abt. 1777; died Aft.
1850. Notes for Posey Trussell: The 1850 census of Anderson Co, SC shows Posey Trussel, 73,
farmer, VA; Elizabeth, 33, SC; Ann Kay, 64, VA. + 46 ii. Sarah 'Sallie' Trussell, born Abt. 1780. + 47 iii. Delila Trussell, born Abt. 1781. + 48 iv. Margaret 'Peggy' Trussell, born Abt. 1785. Generation No. 6 25. James6 Trussell (James5, <Unknown>4,
John3, John2, John1) was born 11 May 1770 in
Frederick Co., VA, and died 18 Oct 1860 in Lauderdale Co., MS. He married
Elizabeth 'Betsy' Lyles Bef. 1798 in SC, daughter of John Liles and Agnes
Cockrell. She was born 01 Jan 1781 in Chester Co., SC, and died 30 Sep 1830 in
Greene Co., AL. Notes for James Trussell: http://www.reynolds-genealogy.com/sak/trussell_p107.html His son, James Madison Trussell, left a diary which has been partially
transcribed by SkyCastle48@aol Dannie (Jan 2003) "My Father James Trussell was born in Frederick County Virginia the 11 day of
May 1770 and was brought up in Chester District (new County) South Carolina And
was baptized into the Baptist church ..." "My Father had two uncles William and Matthew Trussell who settled in South
Carolina and raised families. His uncle John Trussell went with the "Virginia
Blues" under Washington in 1755 to the Indian War or Braddocks defeat and never
returned to Virgina and was not heard of any more ... " "I first heard my uncles tell about the battles they had been in under
Jackson and Carroll in the Indian war and the great battle of New Orleans ... " "In the fall of 1815 my Father moved to the head of Cahawba River in St.
Clair County Alabama where I saw the first Indian which frightened me very bad
and early in the Spring of 1816 sold his improvement and moved to Tuscaloosa
County eight miles below the falls of the Black Warrior River." "After we left Tennessee 1st January 1819 my Father with his family forded
the Warrior River on his way to settle near the Tombigbee River near a large
creek that is still called after his name." Notes for Elizabeth 'Betsy' Lyles: James' mother sold land out of her husbands estate (James d. 1792) to Thomas
Cockril. Thomas likely was some relation to Agnes and owned other lands in that
area. "After John Liles' death in 1790, part of his estate was deeded to Daniel
Trussell by Mourning Liles aka Mourning Trussell. This Mourning Trussell deed is
around 1807, too early to be the Mourning Trussell, daughter of James and
Elizabeth Liles Trussell. The elder Mourning Liles aka Trussell most likely
would have been another daughter of John and Agnes Cockerell Liles." Children of James Trussell and Elizabeth Lyles are: + 49 i. John7 Trussell, born Abt. 1798 in Chester
Co., SC; died 30 Dec 1852 in Lauderdale Co., MS. 50 ii. Joseph Trussell, born Abt. 1801 in Chester Co., SC;
died 06 Feb 1835 in Greene Co., AL. He married Margaret Straight
15 Aug 1832 in Greene Co., AL; died Abt. 08 Feb 1835. Notes for Margaret Straight: Margaret married first Cuthbert Price, and was widowed with a
young child, William L. Price. + 51 iii. Mourning Trussell, born Abt. 1803 in Chester Co.,

<Unknown>4, John3, John2, John1) was
born Bet. 1772 - 1783 in SC, and died Bet. 1830 - 1840 in SC. He married
Sarah Eleanor McClurken Bef. 1812, daughter of John McClurken and Elizabeth
<Unknown>. She was born 12 Mar 1784 in SC, and died 06 Jun 1881 in SC. Notes for William T. Trussell: He could have been born a few years earlier, and in Frederick Co., VA. It is not certain that the descendants listed belong to this William
Trussell. Rev. Oliver Evans McKeown was named guardian for William Alexander and
Sarah Jane Trussell, children of the William born in 1824 and grandchildren of
William T. Trussell. William Trussell, designated "Junior" to distinguish him from William
Trussell, his uncle, bought a mare and a Bible at the sale of his father's
estate in 1794 Chester Co, SC. As one of the heirs of James Trussell, deceased,
he signed with his mark with his brothers and sisters a deed on 28 January 1807,
selling 250 acres to Charles H. Sims. Again, on 29 March 1808, when two tracts
of land "formerly belonging to James Trussell, deceased" were sold to Thomas
Cockrill, he signed as one of the heirs. Notes for Sarah Eleanor McClurken: Sarah Eleanor McClurkin Children of William Trussell and Sarah McClurken are: + 59 i. Mayberry 'Mabry'7 Trussell, born 1812 in

John3, John2, John1) was born 1783 in Chester
Dist., SC, and died Abt. 1850 in TN. He married Nancy Strickland in
Marion Co., TN, daughter of John Strickland. She was born Abt. 1790 in NC, and
died in Of Robertson Co., TN. Notes for Benjamin Trussell: A land record indicates that Benjamin Trussell and Nancy his wife sold land
inherited by them from her father, John Strickland of Robertson Co. TN. Benjamin
moved to a part of Tennessee that was disputed by Kentucky, and in fact his
children are listed as having been born in Logan Co., Kentucky. Notes for Nancy Strickland: Though she has often been called Nancy Wright, this is an error. Helen
Kirkendall kirk72@gulftel.com descends from this line (Jan 2002). Children of Benjamin Trussell and Nancy Strickland are: + 62 i. James Nelson7 Trussell, born 13 Dec 1812

John3, John2, John1) was born Abt. 1796. She
married William Harris. He was born Bef. 1789. Notes for Sarah Trussell: Sarah is not certain to be a child of James Trussell and Sarah Asher, but is
certainly closely related. Children of Sarah Trussell and William Harris are: + 69 i. Asher K.7 Harris, born 07 Aug 1809 in
Marion Co., TN; died 20 May 1907 in Hileyville, Franklin, AL. 70 ii. Polly Harris, born 1818 in Hancock Co., AL. 71 iii. John Harris, born 1824 in Hancock Co., AL. 72 iv. Labeth Harris, born 1826 in Hancock Co., AL. She
married Andy McCombs. 73 v. Louisa Harris, born 1828 in Hancock Co., AL. She
married Levi Maples. 38. Daniel6 Trussell (William5, <Unknown>4,
John3, John2, John1) was born Abt. 1760 in
poss. Frederick Co., VA, and died Abt. 1815 in Carroll Co., GA. He married
Mary Martha <Unknown> Abt. 1777. Notes for Daniel Trussell: Speculative link. Daniel Trussell was deeded land from William Trussell on 24 Oct 1807. He was
not listed in William's will, and may have been a cousin or nephew or grandson. "In the 1800 Chester County, South Carolina census there appears one Daniel
Trussell. In 1810 and 1820 there are two, both approximately of the same age. It
is reasonable to assume that the Daniel Trussell in the 1800 census is the son
of the above Daniel." http://www.reynolds-genealogy.com/sak/trussell_p33.html Note; Dates offered in that book indicate that the older Daniel was born by
1740 and his son by 1771-1773. If earlier, he could be a brother, and not a son,
of his listed father. Child of Daniel Trussell and Mary <Unknown> is: + 74 i. Daniel7 Trussell, born 1778 in VA; died
1837 in Henry Co., GA. 39. John6 Trussell (William5, <Unknown>4,
John3, John2, John1) was born Abt. 1770 in SC,
and died 25 Apr 1836 in Clinton, Greene, AL. He married Annis Wright Bef.
1803, daughter of Clayborn Wright and Elizabeth <Unknown>. She was born Bef.
1788 in SC. Notes for John Trussell: Research Notes: George McAliley (born in the 1780's) remained in Chester County, married a
Miss Trussell, served as executor of his father's estate and appears on the
roster of Captain John Walker's Company of the 1st Regiment of the South
Carolina Militia during the War of 1812 (serving as a substitute for John
Trussell, Sr., who some speculated was his father-in-law). George McAliley had
three daughters, believed named Elizabeth, Milley, and Susa (possibly for
Susannah), whose husbands were, not necessarily repectively, Hiram Miller, Ben
McDonald and a Mr. Cook (who went west). "George McAliley's children were born too soon to be grandchildren of this
John Trussell. It appears possible that George was widowed at the time of the
replacement and that George's three daughters were cared for by John Trussell
and wife while George did the military service for some additional agreed upon
fee. "After that service two of George's daughters were cared for by his mother
and property transferred to his mother for their benefit. The third daughter was
believed to have been in the process of getting married and was provided her
share around the time of the marriage. "Some of this is in records and some of it is just speculation based upon
what we do know about George and his wife Susannah. Susannah's purported parents
had five daughters, Mary and then Rachel the two eldest. Susannah Trussell
McAliley's three daughter bore the names of the other three daughters of William
and Susannah Asher Trussell. We will presume this strengthens the likelihood of
the claim that the daughter Susannah of William and Susannah was Susannah
Trussell McAliley, at least in the majority of researchers' opinions." Note: E. F. Trussell Age 86 yrs., 11 mos., 5 days died Aug. 20, 1887 and is
buried in the same cemetery as Henry and some of his family, Lamon-Trussell
Cemetery in Grenada Co., MS. Is this an earlier child, a later wife, of a
daughter-in-law of this John Trussell? Children of John Trussell and Annis Wright are: 75 i. Lucinda7 Trussell, born 28 Dec 1822 in SC. Notes for Lucinda Trussell: One reported birthdate for Lucinda is 28 Dec 1822. If so, she
was not the Lucinda that married Robert Vance. Another Lucinda,
said to be born about 1803-1807, said to be the daughter of
Gilson Trussell and Ellender Johnston, is likely that Lucinda's
father. + 76 ii. William Trussell, born 25 Sep 1803; died Bet. 1826 -

N. McKeown, son of Sam McKeown and Mary Seed. He was born 01 Jul 1793 in
Chester Co., SC, and died 1836. Notes for Elizabeth 'Bettie' Trussell: After her husband died, she migrated to Gadsden County, FL with her children
as a group with the Clark family. Could the wife of McKeown be Elizabeth Trussell, born 23 Dec 1807 to John
Trussell and Annis Wright, and neice of this Elizabeth? Notes for John N. McKeown: John was the administrator of the estate of Susannah "Sucky" Asher Trussell. Children of Elizabeth Trussell and John McKeown are: + 86 i. Mary Alice7 McKeown, born 23 May 1819 in
