Welcome to the Martin Family Site. The main names that will be included on this site will be Martin, Hoover, Michael, and Meier. The Martin and Hoover Families came from St. Clair and Henry Counties of Missouri and the Michael and Meier
Families came from Munich, Germany.

Other Surnames on the Martin side include, Anderson, Allinson, Hudson, Snuffer, Short, Nichols, Speck, Jones, Carroll, Perrine, Greathouse, Suggs, Lukenbill, Freeman, Smith, McGraw, Rainwater, Wray/Ray, Essman, Jamison, Boles/Bowls, Scarber/Scarborough, Funderburk, Tankersley, Van Cleve, Davis, Owens and many more.

Other Surnames on the Michael side include, Frank, Griser, Fassl, Daniel, Bush,Sedlmair, Liebhaber, Bussewitz, Schick, Siedl, Mayerhofer, Kuhnert, Ziller and many more.

We have traced the Martin and Hoover Families back to the late 1700's, from Virginia, to Missouri, from Missouri to Arkansas, beginning with the marriage between Alexander Hoover of Virginia and Margaret E. Smith of Ohio. Alexander died in July 1865 and his wife Margaret died in October 1879. They had eight children. In the fall of 1835, the Hoover Family moved to St. Clair County, MO.

Valentine D. "Tine" Hoover married Nurana Anderson, daughter of Obanion Anderson. On the census records, Nurana's name has been spelled many different ways, Urana, Uranie, Eurania. On Obanion's mothers probate records, it listed Nurana as "Hurasey", which is probably a nickname. Valentine and Nurana were Laura D. Hoovers parents.

Alexander and Margaret Hoover's eldest daughter Margaret Hoover who married Paris Sims, attended and/or was a mid-wife, for most of the Hoover Family babies being born in and around the St. Clair County, Missouri area, including the two children of Joseph Martin and Laura Hoover.

A lot of the Hoover Clan died very young, in Missouri. It is not known whether there was some kind of plaque going around, or just from living in a place where there was a lot of hardshps, this is a mystery at this time. Some of the Hoover children were left as orphans or had to live with other family members.

After all the Hoover children were married and had families of their own, their migration paths took them to Arkansas, Oklahoma, California, Alaska, and Canada. The majority of the Andersons stayed in Missouri, with some migrating into Texas and California.

William M. Martin, was the son of Joseph H. Martin and Laura D. Hoover. Soon after his parents died, and being left as an orphan, he migrated to the St. Louis area, and then down to the Sebastian County, Arkansas area. He married Dovie May Ray, in Crawford County, AR.

Laura and Joseph, had another child, an infant girl, born in 1887, but no records have been found on her, except her Missouri birth record. So, if anyone out there, knows or has information on William's unknown sister, please let us know.

The Ray family, lived in the Franklin County and Sebastian County, areas of Arkansas. Dovie May Ray was the daughter of Mary Ann "Belle" Lawler and Robert Franklin Ray. Robert Franklin was the son of James Madison Ray and Mary Elizabeth Rainwater. So here, we have the union of the Martin, Ray, and Rainwater Families.

Mary Ann "Belle" Lawler was the daughter of Martha A. Bowls/Boles and Patrick Lawler. Martha, was born in Alabama, and was first married to Benjamin Scaber/Scarborough in Louisiana. No information is known of Patrick Lawler or his family at this time.
