Who would write a poem about a tree?
Surely not anyone as dumb as me
Tried two times to grow a Pine
Which, for a while, grew real fine
Slowly they turned brown
Had to chop them down
Tree whose leafy arms are spread
Bringing shade to one's tied head
What do they have to show,
Working to help them grow?
Their leaves change in color
Keeping senses from getting duller
Almost driven out of your mind
Each day you rise and find
Something that brings you to your knees
Waves, and waves, and waves of leaves
Rake them like new mown hay
Burn or haul these leaves away
Wintery winds blow very hard,
Sweep those leaves to the next yard.
