Spring Hill Female Academy was under the oversight of Dr. James Otey Hardin from 1865-1868. Doctor Hardin was born in North Carolina in 1838. He served four years in the Confederate Army and graduated from the University of Louisiana at New Orleans during 1867 after which he relocated in Spring Hill Tennessee. He was married to Margaret the daughter of Dr. George W. White, who practiced in Spring Hill for many years. From the union was born Ellen, wife of Rev. J. C. Horton, of Florida. Another daughter Annie C. lives at home, and a son James O. Jr. resides in Nashville and is engaged in Electrical work. Century Review of Maury County, Jill Garrett. [WA 11/24/2001}]
