This particular ship Amsterdam was built in 1879 in Scotland.  Its maiden voyage departed Rotterdam for New York on March 27, 1880.  On July 30, 1884 it ran aground off of Nova Scotia and was declared a total loss.

This voyage of the Amsterdam was the first one the Amsterdam made which originated from the port of Amsterdam.  Until April 8, 1882, all NASM ships sailed from the port of Rotterdam.

The master on this voyage, Captain Lucas, was also the master of the Amsterdam on July 30, 1884 when it ran aground off of Nova Scotia.
