Mary Jane HILL I am the great-great-great-granddaughter of Jessee A. Hill and Jane G. Hill, through their daughter Mary Jane Hill Hayward Gilliam. Mary Jane Hill married Meredith Hayward of Dade Co. and they produced two children, one infant boy died, then my g-grandmother Amanda Josephine Hayward was born in 1869 after her parents separated and her mother filed for divorce from Meredith. I find the divorce petition but no divorce occurred in Dade Co. Within a few years, the Hills with Mary and Amanda moved to Texas, and later Mary married a Mr. Gilliam, both living to old age in Hood Co., TX. Earlier they had been in Grayson Co., TX I believe. I have found Meredith Hayward in later census records with another family....so, I imagine a divorce occurred, but who knows! I'm so interested in whether you have any information on the Hills that we could share. My mother remembers Mary Jane Hill Gilliam very well....she was a country midwife during pioneer days in Texas, and Mother remembers her "doctor's bag." Mother's father was Amanda's (Manda) son. I would love to hear from you. Sincerely, Ann Boone PLAC Fall Creek Cemetery, Hood County, Texas _MDCL: Blind in her old age She was a midwife 3S. Meredith HAYWARD "L. Funeral services were conducted by the pastor of the Blanket church, assisted by Rev. R. B. Twitty, pastor of the Austin Avenue Presbyterian church of Brownwood. Mrs. Maggie Blanton was born in Dade County, Missouri, Jan 9, 1854, and was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jesse Hill. She became a Christian at the age of 16, her first profession of Christianity being at the old time camp meeting conducted by Rev. Bennyfield, a Methodist minister. She joined the Methodist church during this meeting. With her parents and sisters she came to Fannin County, Texas in April, 1873. A little more than a year later she was married to Z.T. Blanton. the date of the marriage being Sept 3, 1874. She united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Blanton were united in marriage for a period of 53 years, five month and six days. Mr. and Mrs. Blanton came to Brown County Sept 14, 1878 and made their home in Blanket and since that time had been citizens of that town. Mrs. Blanton was the mother of nine children, five of whom survive their sainted mother. In addition to her many friends and acquaintances of Blanket who attended the services yesterday afternoon to pay their last respects to one who has lived a consecrated Christian life in that community for almost half a century, a large number of friends and acquaintances from Brownwood were present. Brownwood citizens attending the services included Mayor W. D. McCulley, J. B. McCully, Jim Teague, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Jones, Mrs. J. K. Wilkes, Mrs. S. G. S. Thomas, Mr. & Mrs. J. R. Looney and J. Mr. Blanton taught school in 1878 & 1879 at Moro School and the Lone Oak School which were moved to the Eureka School because of the lack of pupils. STORY: Told by Grandpa Zachory T. Blanton to Edna McMurray shortly before he died: He said "People said Zack why did you marry Margaret (this was on their wedding day) Why didn't you marry Mellissa she is a school teacher? He answered, " I told them I didn't want Melissa, I wanted Margaret," and said to Edna, "She was all I ever wanted." STORY: by Mary L. Simpson Bonsal (Great Granddaughter) Grandpa Blanton, as I called him, was a large man, big feet, and a long white beard. He played the flute or piccolo and lived to be 94 years old. He broke his hip from falling on a throw rug while chasing my Mother when he was in his 80's. When we visited Grandpa at Uncle Alf's house in Blanket, Texas, next door to the cemetery, I would sit on a stool near his wheelchair and he would tell me tall tales and stories about when he was a boy. (Oh if I could only remember those stories) I felt he was a great story teller being able to keep a very young little girl interested. He ate a lot of bone marrow and I always wondered why. He said it was the best part of the meat. He died while Mom and Dad and I were living in La Porte, Texas just after the outbreak of world war II. He was highly respected and had many friends. 9.
