EVERGREEN
CEMETERY
East
Mauch Chunk,
JIM THORPE, PENNSYLVANIA

A panoramic view of the Evergreen Cemetery from the
fall of 2004, with Mt. Pisgah and Upper Mauch Chunk shown in the background.
The Evergreen Cemetery is the borough of Jim
Thorpe’s 2nd non-denominational, public cemetery. Originally it was laid out as the public
cemetery for the borough of East Mauch Chunk, but in 1954 the two boroughs of
Mauch Chunk and East Mauch Chunk merged to form the borough of Jim Thorpe.

The BURIAL LIST
The following were compiled by using the
records of the Evergreen Cemetery Association, combined with a survey of the
gravestones made by myself in the fall of 2004. The Association records give date of Name, Date of Death,
Section, Plot, and Plot Owner. I’ve
added the columns showing Date of Birth and Notes. Much of the information taken from the Association records needed
correction, particularly in regards to the Date of Death. The given date was often a few days AFTER
the actual date of death, and may originally have been the date of burial, not
death. Name spellings also needed
correction in some cases. Most
importantly, the Association records listed no burials prior to 1923 – all
burials shown in the following lists prior to that date had the information
taken from the gravestones or other sources.
