Baptised at All Saints, Lanchester on 20th September 1846, John Thomas Hopper, of Leadgate, son of Thomas Hopper, labourer, by his wife Jane.


1851 for Haswell shows  John Hopper aged 4 born Shotley Bridge (near Leadgate/Consett) as nephew to Cuthbert Burnip head 48 lab, Margaret Burnip wife 47 born Stanhope. Also listed is William Burnip, son, 21 labourer born Haswell Durham, Hannah Burnip, daughter, 18 born Haswell and Ann Burnip daughter 15 born Haswell.

* William Milburn, a joiner, was stepfather to John, having married his mother in 1851.

John died in 1910. His death certificate states:
25th December 1910, 40 Albion St, Murton Colliery, East Murton, John Thomas Hopper, 63 years old, winding engineman. Died as the result of Influenza, cardiac failure. George Buckingham, son in law of 10 New Pilgrim Street, Murton Colliery, was in attendance at the death.
