Thomas Ormerod

Thomas (my 3 x Great Grandfather) was born in 1798 in Waddington, Yorkshire. PR's for the Wesleyan Methodist Circuit of Clitheroe show-
Thomas, son of John and Mary Ormrod of Waddington, in the Parish of Mitton, born the 16th day of August 1798 and baptised the 16th September 1798.

The ancient parochial chapelry of Waddington in the parish of Mitton comprised the three townships of Waddington, West Bradford and Grindleton. It was probably founded and endowed with lands by the Tempests as a manorial chapel, but disputes having arisen, a composition was made in 1438 between the Abbot and Convent of Cockersand ( owners of the Parish Church of Mitton and its dependent chapels) , on the one part and Sir John Tempest, Knight, Lord of the vill of Waddington, and the other inhabitants of Waddington, Bradford and Grindleton, on the other part, whereby arrangements were agreed for the regular supply of a chaplain , the enclosure of the chapel-garth as a cemetery and the maintenance of the chapel as a parish church.

Thomas worked as a chair maker.

He married Jane Moss,  in Waddington, Yorkshire on the 7th of July 1821.  The entry in the Parish Register reads:-
Thomas Ormeroyd of this Parish and Jane Moss of this Parish were married in this Church by Bands with consent of the parents this seventh day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty one by me Lavis? Jones, Off. Min. In the presence of us John Cottam, James Walker.
