Notes for RACHEL CANNON:
Rachel went to live with her brother Daniel and his wife Zerilda (Hopkins)
Cannon  after after her husband died in the civil war, in Spring Creek,
Howell County, Missouri. She was living there in 1870.
Notes for JOSEPH G HOPKINS:
This information was given to me by Royce Hopkins, in the 1980s.
"Joseph G. Hopkins married Rachel and lived in Cedar County, Missouri until
the Civil War.  Joseph fought for the confederacy and was captured and was
taken to St. Louis, where he died in prison, or shortly after release.
Rachel, during the war, hid her Oxen and took apart her wagon and hid it.
She put it back together when she thought it was safe and took her children
and came to Howell County, to stay with her brother, Daniel Mac Cannon.
Daniel had married my Great Grandfathers sister Zerelda and he lived about a
half mile from his farm.  My father still owns my great grandfathers farm.  I
farm next door.  Joseph was a first cousin of my Great grandfather John.
Nancy married Andrew J. Hopkins, a son of Johns.  They went to Oklahoma in
1901, in a covered wagon.  Caroline and Jason Frizell, went then also and
before they went they covered the graves of two of their children with a slab
of concrete.  The names of the girls were Naomi and Minnie Frizell.  Most of
this was told to me by Allie Hughes, Okmulgee, Oklahoma.  Allies mother was
Nancy Hopkins, sister to Caroline."
Hopkins, Joseph G. With Jackman's Missouri Cavalry, died of wounds at
Westport, Missouri while a POW in Kansas City on November 18, 1864. Ref:
CSRJC.
More About JOSEPH G HOPKINS:
Burial: Union Cemetery,  E 28th St, Terrace, Kansas City, MO
Military service: 1864, In Co G, Nicols' MO Regt., in the Confederate Army

Children of RACHEL CANNON and JOSEPH HOPKINS are:
    i.  CAROLINE MARIAH4 HOPKINS, b. February 18, 1857, Missouri; d. 1932,
Prague, Lincoln Co., Oklahoma; m. (1) JAMES M. MORRIS, December 09, 1877,
Linclon County, Missouri; m. (2) JASON JAMES FRIZELL, Abt. 1881, Missouri; b.
December 1859, Madison Co., Missouri; d. August 10, 1927, Dent, Pottowatomi
County, Oklahoma.
Notes for JAMES M. MORRIS:
My grandmother describes Joe as a mean drunk Indian, that abused his wife.
My Great grandmother Caroline left him in a bad lightning storm in the middle
of the night with her baby only about one month old.
Notes for JASON JAMES FRIZELL:
Jason was taken into Nathan Cannons home and raised as his own at about the
age of seven or eight years old. No one knows what happened to his parents.
His Homestead papers of many years later said his Father was John Frizell and
his mother was Mary Ann and that he was born in Madison County, Missouri, in
1859. I was always told he didn't know who his parents were but he did.  I
found him as a baby of a few months old in the 1860 census and his father was
John Frizell and his mother was Mary Ann Casteel.  I found the will of
Jason's great grandfather Thomas Frizell in Madison County, listing Jason's
grandfather and father. (Marriage records of Madison County.)  I did find
records that John and Mary  sold their land in Madison County, about 1861.  I
don't know where they went or what happened to them or why Jason was left.
Family history says that all of his people were killed by Indians, but it
seems late for that.  More likely they were killed during the Civil war.
Further research is needed.

Hannah McCoy, mother of Sibby M. McCoy and Benjamin M. McCoy.
Hannah may have been freed from slavery on 31, December, 1801 by a writ of manumission from a John Wren in
  Fairfax County, Virginia.
Benjamin M. McCoy married to: Ann Eliza or Eliza Ann Dudley on January 2, 1851 in Alexandria, Virginia or Washington, D.C.
Ann Eliza/Eliza Ann Dudley needs to have the name of her father filled in the blank that I have in my database. She may have been born in Virginia.
The approximate birthdate for Benjamin M. McCoy is December 5, 1810 either in Washington D.C. or Virginia.
He died approximately May 30, 1884 in Washington, D.C.
George William/Dudley McCoy born on December 27, 1859 in Washington, D.C. and died December 11, 1932   in  Washington, D.C.
Married to: Amanda Estelle Pindell, daughter of Louis Henry Pindell and Amanda May Church, born September 9, 1870 in
Baltimore, Maryland and died February 7, 1932 in Washington, D.C.
George Dudley McCoy born March 25, 1897 in Washington, D.C. and died October 18, 1956 in Washington,
D.C.  In addition, I need to find more information on the following branches of the Benjamin M. McCoy descendants:
Mary Edith McCoy who married John J. Jackson around 1879.
Their children: Adalina G. Jackson, Mayme Jackson and Lavinia Jackson (who married someone with the last name of Jordan).  Rachel A. R. McCoy who married a John Augustus Hanson (marriage date unknown).
Their children: Augustus McCoy Hanson [attorney], Benjamin McCoy Hanson, George A. F. Hanson [musician],
Jesse McCoy Hanson, Czarina Hanson, Bertha E. Hanson-Hecton.
Hannah A. B. McCoy who married a John W. Hamilton (date unknown) Their daughter: Ollie Beatrice Hamilton (who married someone with the last name of Powell).  James H. McCoy born in 1868, appears in the D.C. Census of 1870 but no longer appears in the Census after that. I need to find out what happened to him.
I'm also attempting to locate information on a cousin named Raymond E. Rice. He lived with my McCoy grandparents in Washington, D.C. in 1920 when he was approximately 16 years old. Family legend has it that he
worked as a horse jockey during his lifetime. According to the 1920 Census, he worked as a messenger for Western Union.
In addition, if anyone is also researching the Waterholters and the Fergusons, my maternal lines are from that
branch. I have some information on the three Frederick William Waterholters.

McCoy,  (Alamo Printing Company, Austin, TX, 1977), Page 2.).  He married (1) ELIZABETH JACKS, daughter of ISAAC JACKS and ANNA WHITTEN.  He married (2) RACHEL TATE 24 April, 1839 in Jackson County, MO.

Notes for DRAYTON BENNETT MCCOY:
Drayton Bennett McCoy was born 23 August 1801 in NC.  Drayton's father or one of his grandfathers came to the United States as a stowaway.  His ancestors came from Hallmark, Ireland, and Scotland.  Records show that they came as early as the late 1600's and early 1700's.  The census of 1790 showed that there were 37 McCoy families in NC and 70 heads of McCoy families in PN.  Iredell County, NC had more McCoys than any other county in NC.  The county south of Pittsburg, PN in 1790 showed more McCoys than any other county in that state.  (Lloyd McCoy)

When Drayton was a young man, his father sent him East to study medicine.  He was not interested in medicine.  He was more or less a playboy and enjoyed playing tricks on the negroes.  He left school, but he did not return to NC.  Later he went to Mississippi.  He married Edna Elizabeth Barnes from AL, and all their children were born in Mississippi.  He had been married twice before he married Edna.  He had five children by his first wife before she died.  He remarried and had three children by his second wife, who died in childbirth.

Drayton taught school in Choctaw County, Mississippi in 1860.  In 1867 they moved to Dallas County, AR.  He purchased a farm and also taught school in Kingsland, Cleveland County, AR in 1870.  He became a farmer and a big landowner.  He owned sawmills, gristmills, and a gin at different times.  Drayton and Edna had eleven children.

Drayton Bennett McCoy died 8 August 1888 in Kingsland, Cleveland County, AR.  He was buried at Camp Springs Cemetery  outside of Kingsland.

Burial: Camp Springs Cemetery, Kingsland, Cleveland County, AR

Notes for EDNA ELIZABETH BARNES:
Edna Elizabeth Barnes was born in Alabama in 1824.  She married Drayton Bennett McCoy, and all their children were born in Mississippi.  They left there between 1867 and 1870.  They first moved to Dallas County, AR, and then to Kingsland, Cleveland County, AR, where Drayton farmed and taught school.  They had eleven children two of whom were buried in Mississippi.  After Drayton's death, she came to TX with her son, Thomas Gilbert, and his family in 1890.  She was loved and respected by her children and dearly loved by her grandchildren.  She was quite petite but strong in her love for family and friends.

Edna Elizabeth Barnes lived in AL, MS, AR, and TX.  She died in Texas at her son Thomas Gilbert "Tom" McCoy's home on 15 January 1900.  She was buried at Midway Cemetery, Hodges, Jones County, TX.
