Generation No. 6

6. HECTOR B.6 PEACOCK (ELIJAH5, JOHN4, BENJAMIN3, THOMAS2, PATRICK1) was born 1818 in Loudoun County, Virginia, and died 1897 in Lafayette County, Missouri. He married ELIZABETH PRISCILLA COE November 26, 1844 in Montgomery County, Maryland, daughter of ROBERT COE and VIRGINIA COE.

Notes for HECTOR B. PEACOCK:  From James Peacock at jpeak@pe.net - I am a descendant of John Hough Peacock, Elijah's first child, and brother to Hector Peacock. I knew that Hector had gone to Lafayette County, shortly after his brother John who went in 1847 and he shows in the 1860 census. But after that he disappears, or so I thought and I had always wondered what happened to him, I had supposed the Civil War had made him move or something?? I wonder why he doesn't show up in the subsequent censuses?

Anyway there were actually four Peacock brothers that went to Lafayette County, John, Hector, Turner and Benjamin Franklin Peacock, and they all spent there remaining years in Lafayette County. John and Turner are buried in the Higginsville City Cemetery, and Benjamin in another cemetery. As you can tell by the article you quote on John, he was very successful and had a large family, he is my great grandfather. John's house built in 1868 still stands near Higginsville and is called the "Old Peacock Farm". It is owned by one of his descendants, Betty Mendenhall. Turner was also very successful and died worth around $200,000 in the early 1900's. He came to Lafayette County about 1848 but then went to California for the gold rush which some think gave him the basis for later wealth.

Your material cleared up a couple of things for me, including what happened to Hector but also the confusion I had between the two Minnies, Minnie H. and Minnie L. I couldn't figure out who they were. Another confusion I had was I thought the Virginia that married George Masterson and went to Kansas was the daughter of John Peacock. I couldn't reconcile that assumption with the fact the John Peacock's daughter Virginia later who is shown to be in Higginsville, called Miss Virginia, and was treated like someone who had some physical and mental problems. Now I know.
